Predicted but no less stunning decline (9.7% to 5.2%) in child poverty (using Census Bureau's preferred alternative poverty measure) from 2020-2021 driven largely by enhanced #ChildTaxCredit, which Congress failed to extend.
No single transfer program did more to keep children--5.3 million people overall, a majority of whom were children--out of poverty in 2021 than the enhanced #ChildTaxCredit
We achieved the lowest child poverty rate (under the Census Bureau's Supplemental Poverty Measure, which accounts for tax credits) on record, thanks largely to the #AmericanRescuePlan's now-expired enhanced #ChildTaxCredit. Congress should find a way to renew this policy ASAP.
Along with the strengthened #EarnedIncomeTaxCredit, the enhanced #ChildTaxCredit helped shrink racial disparities in poverty while helping children of all races & ethnicities in the pandemic. Renewing both will be crucial to achieve racial equity.

The Trump Administration has proposed Medicaid block grants. They say they believe this structure is more effective. That explains why they've proposed multiple cuts to the TANF block grant & elimination of the Social Services Block Grant. Beware of the long-term strategy... 1/X
As evidenced by their revealed preferences, the Far Right plans to convert social insurance programs into targeted ones, re-structure guaranteed targeted ines into block grants that fail to match need, & eliminate block grants. Rinse & repeat as programs move down the chain. 2/X
The goal is to dismantle our economic security & opportunity system. Instead of hearing that, we'll hear about focusing programs on the "truly needy", state & local "flexibility", the inability to demonstrate "effectiveness", & that we can't "afford" to support our own. 3/X
