NEW:Metro’s safety training drill is turning up some issues with the rail along the second phase of the Silver Line. The rails have been sitting for so long, that many are rusted - meaning some safety equipment is having a hard time “connecting” to the rails #wmata@nbcwashington
Experts here say the rust wouldn’t be an issue if trains were running a normal schedule. But this speaks to the delay of the project (4 years and counting) and how the tracks and third rail sitting exposed to the elements could cause issues. #wmata@nbcwashington
This training drill was expected to start around 8am - and it hasn’t been able to start yet because the proper safety devices aren’t able to be installed quickly #wmata
