Scores level 34-all.
5 minutes to go

The refereeing has been abysmal.
This penalty does not change that.

This penalty has now been reversed. I cannot believe this is Rugby now. There is no sense to Rugby's rule beyond effectively making tax law into a football code.

#AUSvNZL
What an absurd ending to an absurdly officiated game.
Well done to New Zealand.

Harry needs to do more than that. He and Meghan have disgraced themselves in their grift & vapidity. Their desertion also forced the Royals to draft in much older royals to complete the royal programs that are organised years in advance.
The Royals are a “firm” – their businesses are constitutional trustee, national functionaries (esp armed forces) & active and visible patronage of endless good causes. When two young Royals desert the “firm”, it causes more work for a scarce & always ageing work force.
Will add for non-Commonwealth onlookers: almost everyone in the Crown realms has opinions & feel some proprietorship of the Royals. Yes they are “our Queen/King” etal but not just as subjects but as owners. As in all families, no one likes deserters or shirkers like Harry & Megan

In Nov 1975, the Whitlam Govt could not obtain Supply from the Senate. The Commonwealth was running out of money. Governor-General, Sir John Kerr, dismissed the Whitlam Govt, appointed a caretaker PM to obtain Supply & enable an election. Kerr stated his reasons to Whitlam⬇️
On the day before, Chief Justice Barwick set out the constitutional position for the Governor-General. This advice makes clear that Whitlam as Prime Minister always had duties to Kerr: if Whitlam could not obtain supply for the Crown, he had to either advise an election or resign
There was & is no evidence that the Queen or “the Palace” engaged in any deception - indeed, Sir John Kerr on the day of the Whitlam Dismissal made it expressly clear that he had not in advance informed the Queen of his decision as Governor-General to dismiss the Whitlam Govt.

NB: what embittered anti-Crown sentiment there is here should be pitied & not engaged with. Many in politics & media have careers in which they have often had to debase themselves, repeatedly, to 'get ahead'. A personage like our late Queen was both above & a repudiation of them.
There was a great essay years ago about how the Monarchy most irked a certain specie of parliamentarian, as MPs hated having someone like the Queen above them, who held the popular affection, and who did not rely on grovelling or spin/PR to gain or maintain their position.
Irony of the Monarchy as some remote institution when the Queen drove & fixed trucks in WWII, and even the disgraced wastrel Harry once did something useful in the Army (even in the flying corps), compared to a succession of Prime Ministers who did nothing but climb greasy poles.

This by ⁦@20committee⁩ on the “Fat Leonard” scandal - a scandal if pitched for a television NCIS or FBI series would be rejected as too bonkers to be believed - is deservedly unsparing. Read it all. washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-amer…
“The whiff of China lingered over the whole affair, given Fat Leonard's connections and the thick presence of Chinese spies in the ports where Glenn Defense Marine Asia plied its shady trade.” - @20committee
“The scandal tore the Navy asunder, wrecking hundreds of careers. Almost a dozen senior officers received prison sentences (NCIS Agent Beliveau got 12 years), while a stunning 60 admirals fell under suspicion.” - @20committee

Good morning all & OTD in 1945, the Japanese Empire formally surrendered to the Allies on the deck of USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. General MacArthur accepted the surrender for the Allies & insisted on ex-POW Generals Percival (UK) & Wainwright (US) playing a visible role as well. ImageImageImageImage
I forgot to add here that astute watchers will see the British, Australians & iirc Canadian officers are all in their formal rigs with ribbons & Sam Browns etc. The Americans - esp MacArthur who only wore his rank & eschewed his ribbons & decorations - are in a khaki working rig. Image
When MacArthur took the Japanese surrender, among the pens MacArthur used was his wife Jean's Parker 'big red' fountain pen. It went missing from their Waldorf Astoria apartment & has never been recovered ... one of the most valuable [if not most valuable] 'missing' pens on earth Image

Not sure why but had Simon & Garfunkel in my feed this morning & these are my only comments on the subject
Neither for nor against Simon or Garfunkel. Have to think, however, that had they not been a boomer staple with an enormous demographic bulge to assist sales, both would have been working in an “Amazon fulfilment depot”
Music hits its mark by speaking to its time or a future time. Or something else. I remember looking at the comments for Live’s “Lightning Crashes” and it is a song that still gives for so many.
