8th Indyref anniversary, and much to ponder . .
"What is the process for removing our EU citizenship" Voting Yes."
"No means faster, better, safer change for Scotland"
"Higher food prices if you vote Yes"
"Vote No for Lower energy bills for Scotland"
"the UK would be a federal state within two years with Holyrood and the rregions of the UK handed equal status to Westminster. That's a promise we will keep."
"the oil is running out"
"Gordon Brown urges people in Scotland to stay in the UK to create a more socially just country."
"Mobile phone users could incur roaming charges if Scotland gains independence"
"There is little real danger of the UK leaving the EU. Any Yes campaigner arguing in 2014 that the only way of securing Scotland's membership of the EU is to vote Yes is scaremongering, plain and simple."
"We would have struggled to win without scaremongering." Blair McDougall, BetterTogether
"If we vote No, London will hear only this: Do whatever the hell you like to Scotland. because we don't care enough about ourselves to stop you." Alan Bissett, 2014
"We might've thought it was demonstrating our trust and faith in Britain. To Westminster it only demonstrated our weakness and vulnerability. They have taken advantage of that. They were always going to."
"When Yes loses . . the dream consequence of this loss should be the steady erosion of Holyrood's powers until it can be abolished." Michael Kelly, former Labour Provost of Glasgow, 2013
On Tuesday 12th June 2018 Westminster voted to strip the Scottish Parliament of powers devolved to it in 1997, and voted for by 74% of Scots. Westminster restricted debate to 15mins, not a single Scottish MP was allowed to speak, and the Powergrab was voted through.
Westminster's power grab of Scottish devolved powers - how they did it . .
"The devolved powers are rendered worthless by this new system [Internal Market Bill]. UK ministers are given powers to do things whihc contravene the devolution settlements without consultation let alone consent." For Hope, first Deputy President of the Supreme Court.
"Scots voted to stay in Europe, and if the only way fo us to do that is to become independent from England, that may just be the way to ho. An I never thought I would say that." Billy Connolly 2018
"I'm now at the point where I think if Scotland goes again for referendum they should go independent." David Tennant
"The oil will run out in 15 years."
"Yes, the BBC (and the press in general) was prejudiced against Yes in the #indyref. And rightly so. That's its job." Alex Massie, Journalist, 2015
A British government which insists that it will not consent to Scotland having a say on its own future is conceding that the UK is not a union at all. It's a prison.
