I spent the last 5 days on a trade show floor with several Republican coworkers. We talked (like ya do) when times were slow.

Not one of them is planning to vote Republican in Nov. Not. One.
I was fascinated by that and asked why.

Here are their answers. 🧵/1
Coworker 1: Republican from Ohio.
Says he can’t vote Republican because he has a daughter and he doesn’t want her rights taken away.

See - she was raped in college and got pregnant from it. Abortion meant she didn’t commit suicide (but came close).
3/ (Sorry - missed the 2 on the last one)
Coworker 2: Young female from Oklahoma.
Won’t vote Republican because she isn’t married and has gynecological problems. She’s terrified she won’t be able to carry and will die from complications if she can’t get an abortion.
4/Coworker from TN. Republican middle aged man.
Says he won’t vote Republican because his 20-something kids don’t want babies yet and need birth control.
And he thinks AR-15s should be outlawed (his words).
He doesn’t support Democrats, so he just won’t vote.
5/ Coworker from WA.
Middle aged male. Democrat. Wants to know “wtf is wrong with Texas.” (He knows I live in TX.)
Hates the political stunts with immigration (his grandparents were refugees).
Also wants his daughter to have choices for her future.
6/Coworker from FL. Male. Unknown political affiliation.
He doesn’t want his wife and daughters to lose the ability to determine their own futures. Has sisters and says they deserve the right to choose their own paths.
Grandparents immigrated to US.
/7 I just listened. I asked a few questions but did not initiate the conversations.
But this is VERY telling. Republican tactics are not working.
As more than one said: “they’re just really loud about their stupidity.”😳😂

Faith in humanity restored. /end
Update! This took off unexpectedly.
Thank you all for your comments and follows. I’ll follow back as I can. Getting on a plane home soon.

Please remember … we’re all people. We all deserve our rights, our freedom, and our own voices in our gov’t.

Be kind, and vote!💙
Since this has blown up, a few clarifications:

No, I did not ask for this information.
No, these were not all single conversations, and not all happened in the same day.
Yes, I listened even if I didn’t agree.
No, I did not argue.

✌🏼
Last update!

Everyone who calls me or my coworkers a liar gets blocked. There’s no reason to be cruel to someone you don’t know.

If you want to have a discussion, I’m open to it. I’m not open to name-calling or general meanness. Cruelty is not okay.

Boundaries are important.

Since I seem to have pissed off the “NotAlLmEN” crowd, let’s continue, shall we?

Stay mad, little bros! Keep showing women why the bear is the smart option. 👍🏼

Let’s start with my wasband.

We dated, married, everything groovy - we had a kid….
A little over a year later, I was diagnosed with cancer. DCIS. No chemo or radiation. Surgery only.

14 months later, I was diagnosed again. This time, it’s invasive - IDC, Stage 1, triple positive.

Doctors throw the kitchen sink at it this time….
4 rounds TCH + 52 weeks Herceptin + 35 rounds of radiation.

I started treatment. Then the bills came in, and he turned abusive.

My wasband often told me then that my life wasn’t worth the medical bills. Halfway through my 4 rounds, he got angry at the cost…..

Y’all. Let’s talk about gender-affirming care from a slightly different perspective - mine.

I am a 46-year-old, cis, hetero woman.
I have received gender-affirming care.

Follow along if you’re interested. 🧵
In Nov. 2006, I was diagnosed with DCIS - stage 0 breast cancer.
Treatment: mastectomy and anti-hormonal medication.

I spent 10 months with one breast and two prosthetics breasts to make me look “normal.”

My surgeon had recommended no reconstruction until we had pathology.
That was Dec. 2006.
Insurance would have covered reconstruction at that time, but I had to pay the $5k deductible after Jan.

I wasn’t cleared for reconstruction until I healed from the mastectomy.

In Feb. 2007.

I’m the meantime, I didn’t tolerate my anti hormonal meds…
