Shortages of natural gas are forcing steel, glass, and paper factories in Europe to close. Sensing blood in the water, anti-civilization activists are seeking to kill off private investment in the energy American allies need to survive the winter. It’s a sick game.
It’s true that Europe has done a good job increasing natural gas supplies to keep its people warm during the winter, but it won’t have enough to keep open many of its factories. De-industrialization will have a devastating impact on people’s lives.

nytimes.com/2022/09/19/bus…
The anti-civilization activists say their concern is climate change, but as a result of their successful war on natural gas, Europeans will burn more wood and diesel, which are far more carbon-intensive. Indeed, thanks to “climate activists,” 2022 will see record coal use.
Their goal is energy scarcity, not environmental progress, which depends on energy abundance. Abundant natural gas and nuclear mean we don’t need to use wood, coal, and diesel. Instead of producing more energy, the nihilists are draining our energy reserves & stifling investment.
Their goal is, and always has been, decivilization. It’s a religious crusade aimed at undermining the basis of our civilization, abundant energy. Some are honest about it, openly demanding “de-growth.” Others hide behind fear-mongering & alarmism.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/anti-energy-…
The result is that many people will die unnecessarily from lack of food, air pollution, and cold. Preventing those deaths is as simple as turning the taps back on. Instead they seek to shut them further. It’s madness.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/bidens-war-o…
Just look at their creepy war on fertilizer. We know how to reduce fertilizer pollution. Farmers from the Netherlands to China show how it can be done while increasing yields; the nihilists are only interested in reducing pollution if it reduces yields.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/un-war-on-fe…
Elites often have a financial interest in promoting scarcity, but mostly they are in the grip of a bad religion, one that draws on obviously wrong and immoral ideas espoused by dead white men engaged in language manipulation and power games.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/why-progress…
The key to their power is the manipulation of emotions, particularly fear. They grossly misrepresent the science and project onto the world their own alienation, anxiety, and depression.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/climate-pani…
The rising narcissism of the “me decade” gave way to the communal narcissism of the social media era. They see the apocalypse in every fire, and their redemption in ever-greater control of energy and food supplies. Our scarcity is their joy.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/narcissism-o…
Nuclear is their greatest enemy because it provides the most abundant energy of any source. It obviates the need for renewables and indeed the entire green grift. They wage war on it because it is too powerful; it undermines their bid for social control.

forbes.com/sites/michaels…
Europe, which is significantly increasing its use of *coal,* thanks in part to its own rejection of nuclear and natural gas, is now seeking to deny poor African nations natural gas.

It’s as wrong as it looks.

For years, global elites at the UN, WEF, & IMF have demanded poor nations stop subsidizing fossil fuels for their citizens. Haiti just did that. The result is riots, violence, and the imminent collapse of the government.

Sri Lanka 2.0, with more to come

We’re in for a bumpy ride until we remove the green snobs from power, worldwide, like they did in Sri Lanka.

Haiti did what “climate experts” and green nihilists demanded.

“The government said last week that it would end $400M in subsidies for gasoline, diesel & kerosene, doubling the price to consumers. Thousands of Haitians took to the streets in protest”

The people who are creating shortages of fertilizer, natural gas, & electricity call themselves “environmentalists,” but by increasing the use of wood, coal, & land, they are causing far more harm to the environment than any fossil fuel company. ImageImageImageImage
Many of the people shutting down natural gas, nuclear, and fertilizer production no doubt love being in nature, but the evidence is overwhelming that the consequences of their anti-energy policies are significant increases in pollution & environmental degradation.
It would thus be accurate to call the people who repress energy and food production “anti-environmentalists,” but a more fair label is “anti-civilization activists” since they themselves say explicitly that their enemy is modern, industrial civilization.

In May the Biden admin. shut down a refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Last month, it demanded that U.S. refiners not increase exports, because supplies are so tight. Now an important midwestern refinery has caught fire.

The Biden administration is playing a dangerous game during the worst energy crisis in 50 years. Its entire strategy is to stifle domestic energy production, demand other nations increase oil production, and release oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve.

Many think nuclear accidents are the only ones that require people to “shelter-in-place,” but Monterey County Fire & Sheriff Deaprtments in California have just issued one, and closed roads, in response to a Tesla battery fire that is spewing toxic smoke. ImageImageImage
There’s no reason to panic. Sheltering-in-place, blocking roads, and closing windows are simple & easy ways people can protect themselves from hazardous exposure, which is the point: chemical industries, like lithium batteries, are potential sources of toxic particulate matter.
Where lithium battery fires have killed Americans, including an eight year-old girl just yesterday, and a mother and her child last month, nuclear power never has.

In fact, lithium batteries are increasingly a leading cause of fire death around the world. ImageImageImageImage

For many people, describing climate change as the apocalypse signals seriousness, but there is no science supporting such catastrophism. In fact, most trends are going in the right direction. Why, then, are some people in particular so alarmist?

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/narcissism-o…
Could it be that the most apocalyptic people in our society are that way for reasons that have nothing to do with climate science, and everything to do with them as individuals and members of a particular political tribe?

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/anti-energy-…
I was surprised to discover a rather large body of research supporting the widespread suspicion that people who loudly declare “the end is near!” & demand that people obey them, are power-hungry attention-seekers. This is known as “exhibitionism.”

The Vice President of the European Commission, @TimmermansEU , says that the food shortages caused by fertilizer shortages, which will kill millions, are solely caused by Russia, but that's a lie. In June, he killed an EU proposal to build fertilizer plants in Africa. ImageImageImage
Timmermans is a key henchman in the war on fertilizer

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/un-war-on-fe…
In the midst of a global food crisis, Timmermans has sought to restrict fertilizers further. This is sinister.
