On #NationalVoterRegistrationDay, Georgians targeted directly by Gov. Brian Kemp for working to turn out voters are calling out his history of voter suppression.
Commissioner Olivia Coley-Pearson and Mayor Nancy Dennard were arrested and investigated, and acquitted.
THREAD.👇
Olivia Coley Pearson, the first Black woman elected to the Douglas City Commission, faced 3 investigations by the State Election Board (chaired by Kemp) for helping a first-time voter understand how to use a voting machine. She was acquitted of all charges.
After 2 trials, Commissioner Coley-Pearson's name was finally cleared.
To recap — Commissioner Coley-Pearson was criminally charged for helping a first time voter in Coffee County.
Coffee County is the very same county that a fake Trump elector helped Trump campaign operatives access voting machines the same day a voting system there was breached.
Former Quitman Mayor Dr. Nancy Dennard was part of a group of Black women known as the Quitman 10+2 who then-Secretary of State Kemp launched an investigation against after they organized to flip the majority-white school board.
Kemp sent armed investigators door-to-door in Black neighborhoods to arrest and charge the women, despite having no evidence of voter fraud. After 4 years of facing charges over small “breaches of absentee ballot procedure,” all charges were dropped.
Brian Kemp has consistently taken action that detrimentally impacted the ability of voters of color to cast a ballot.
Georgians, listen to Commissioner Olivia Coley-Pearson and former Mayor Nancy Dennard — check your voter registration status before the October 11 deadline and make a plan to vote early: GeorgiaDemocrat.org/vote

This morning, Georgia lawmakers held a press conference on Gov. Brian Kemp’s recent comments opening the door to banning contraception if he’s re-elected.
THREAD. ⬇️🧵
@SheaForGeorgia: "Mark my words: Brian Kemp is a threat to our rights. Remember — when Kemp signed his dangerous abortion bill into law in 2019, he said — and I quote: 'this is just the beginning.'
"And we must remember: when people show you who they are, believe them."
@SheaForGeorgia: "If he’s re-elected Kemp could strip Georgia women of the right to access emergency contraception and other forms — we cannot let that happen...We can fight Kemp’s anti-choice, anti-freedom, government overreach."
A county Republican Party in Georgia issued a "call to action," warning that Stacey Abrams and Rev. Raphael Warnock were "crossing over our county border" likening them to invading enemies. nytimes.com/2022/09/16/us/…
The flier, likening Abrams and Warnock to invading enemies, urged supporters to join and said "in response, we will be lining their route and entrance to the venue with signage showing what WE THE PEOPLE STAND FOR!"
After reporters found the flier online, it was quickly taken down and the group declined to answer if they had produced or distributed the flyer.
Another local GOP group, the Republican Women of Forsyth County released a statement distancing themselves from the planned rally.
Freedom is foundational to our country. But it’s volatile — shifting constantly and shaped by our elected leaders.
That's why elections matter and why we have to defeat Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
A deeper look into Kemp's anti-voter history. 👇🧵
While Kemp was overseeing Georgia’s elections as Secretary of State, he took actions that detrimentally impacted the ability of voters of color to cast a ballot. nytimes.com/2018/08/11/opi…
Kemp oversaw more than 1.4 million voter registrations canceled while he was Secretary of State — Nearly 670,000 registrations were cancelled in 2017 alone.
I came across a powerful speech from Florida State Senator Lori Wilson supporting the Equal Rights Amendment in 1977.
As our nation faces an onslaught of attacks on our rights, elections, and democracy, I think it's still relevant.
Take 2 minutes and read this.👇
"The good old boys in southern politics refused to give up their slaves until the rest of the nation whipped them on the battlefields."
"The good old boys refused to approve the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote, until the rest of the nation whipped them in the legislative halls elsewhere across this land."
@staceyabrams Expanding Medicaid would provide over 500,000 Georgians with access to affordable health care. This is HUGE: 1.4 million lack health coverage and our uninsured rate is the 2nd highest in the nation at 14.5%. kff.org/other/state-in…
@staceyabrams Medicaid expansion keeps our tax dollars working in Georgia. Refusal to expand caused us to lose $21 billion in federal funds, meaning our tax dollars go to other states to cover other Americans whose governors don't put politics over lives. gbpi.org/fast-facts-on-…
NEW: Gov. Brian Kemp gets a lot of credit for resisting pressure from Trump to “find the votes” to flip the 2020 election results in his state. But that was then.
Kemp’s running mate, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, Burt Jones, is part of the false elector scheme to squeeze former Vice President Mike Pence to reject electoral votes on January 6th.
Should he win, Burt Jones could guide the Georgia legislature in appointing its own electors, irrespective of the vote count, as many Trump-aligned activists hope that Republican state legislatures will do in the future.
