NEW: Leaked draft executive order shows Trump allies plotting a “national emergency” to change election rules before the 2026 midterms.

Our first-look identifies sweeping proposals that amount to an election takeover blueprint.

Top red flags. 🚩⬇️ Image @DemocracyDocket published the leaked draft executive order (EO).

To be clear: the Constitution says states run elections and Congress can regulate them – not the president.

Lawyers will challenge attempts to use emergency powers to control elections.

Pay attention – Trump has called for:

– Rigged voting maps
– A mass voter suppression law
– Republicans to “take over” elections

Now he’s bombing Iran while allies circulate a draft "emergency" executive order to expand his power over voting.

Here’s what you need to know. ⬇️ Marc Elias is connecting the dots. He led the legal fight that stopped Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election in court.

Now he’s warning that this draft “emergency” order could be used to assert illegal power over the 2026 elections

NEW: As Trump calls to “take over” elections and Congress pushes the SAVE Act, which could disenfranchise millions, Georgia lawmakers and voting rights leaders stood together today to fight back.

They introduced the Georgia Voting Rights Act.

Here’s what they had to say. ⬇️ @GASenDems Nikki Merritt: "We're here because voting is the foundation of everything else we argue about in this building. If people cannot freely and fairly vote, then nothing we pass, fund or regulate carries the legitimacy it claims it might. Today, we're introducing the Henry McNeal Turner Georgia Voting Rights Act. The fight over who counts, whose vote matters and who gets to participate has never fully been stopped."

🚨NEW: ProPublica just dropped a bombshell on Trump’s Fulton County FBI raid.

The “evidence” may trace back to a discredited election denier – whose claims Georgia officials already debunked.

This comes as Trump calls to “take over” elections.

Why this matters for 2026. ⬇️ Image .@ProPublica identifies Kevin Moncla (an election denier) as the potential key source behind the FBI raid on Fulton’s election warehouse.

Moncla says he’s been interviewed twice by government investigators and gave them data on Fulton’s 2020 election. Image

NEW: Standing before Georgia lawmakers last month, a known election conspiracy theorist dropped a bombshell:

“On September 10th, I received a call from an investigator with the Department of Justice.”

What he said next should alarm everyone. ⬇️ Mark Davis told lawmakers the DOJ was investigating his claim that hundreds of thousands of Georgians voted illegally.

Davis is a serial voter challenger.

Court filings show Georgia’s GOP Secretary of State investigated his past claims and found them 0% accurate. Image

Setting the record straight:
Trump *cannot* cancel the 2026 midterms – but he *can* try to rig them.

Here’s how Trump and Republicans are trying to do it right now. ⬇️ In July, I wrote about Trump + White House officials pressuring GOP states to gerrymander congressional maps.

It started in Texas – now it’s spread. Some states passed maps (NC, MO), others are under pressure (NH, NE, IN).

They want to weaken our votes.

NEW: Trump’s team is plotting to declare a fake national emergency to hijack elections.

One top operative says they can “take steps without Congress” and “mandate" election rules for states.

@NYTimes' investigation exposes the operatives and the takeover already underway. ⬇️ Image

Heather Honey (Trump DHS appointee) floated using national emergency powers to mandate election rules for states as early as March.

Honey is part of the Election Integrity Network, a group that spreads disinformation, pressures election officials & pushes to rig election rules. Image

NEW: Tomorrow the Supreme Court will rehear a case that could let the GOP grab 19 new, safe U.S. House seats by gutting Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

I wrote for @Slate about how the far-right justices seem ready to help Republicans lock in one party rule for decades. ⬇️ Slate headline: The Supreme Court Might Net Republicans 19 Congressional Seats in One Fell Swoop
Slate article text: By taking the unusual step of reopening arguments, legal experts believe, the court’s far-right majority may have telegraphed its intent to dismantle Section 2. If it falls, the impact will reverberate far beyond Louisiana, reshaping political power across the entire country. Combined with Donald Trump and Republicans’ ongoing gerrymandering power grab, gutting Section 2 could help secure an additional 27 safe GOP U.S. House seats—at least 19 directly tied to the loss of Section 2. According to a new analysis from Fair Fight Action and Black Voters Matter Fund, it’s eno...
After a court found Louisiana’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voters’ power, the GOP legislature was ordered to draw a 2nd majority-Black district.

When they fixed the map, non-Black voters sued, saying fixing the discrimination was itself discrimination. Slate article text: Louisiana v. Callais began with a simple act of compliance. After a federal court found that the state’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voters’ power, Louisiana’s Republican Legislature was ordered to draw a second majority-Black district. The reason was clear: Although Black residents make up roughly a third of Louisiana’s population, they had been given a fair chance to elect a representative of their choice in just one of six congressional districts. When lawmakers finally followed the court’s order to fix their discriminatory map, they were p...

NEW: Next week, the Supreme Court will re-hear a case that could allow Republicans to create 19 new safe U.S. House seats by gutting what’s left of the Voting Rights Act.

The far-right majority may finally be ready to finish the VRA off.

Here’s what’s at stake. ⬇️ Image This all started in 2022 when a court found Louisiana’s congressional map violated the VRA by weakening Black voting power.

The court ordered a fix: draw a second majority-Black district.

The GOP legislature complied – then was sued by non-Black voters. lailluminator.com/2025/08/06/how…

NEW: Today, the Republican Party is pushing a judge to jail Fulton County commissioners.

Why? They refuse to vote to appoint two far-right election denial activists to the Fulton County Election Board who have a history of undermining elections.

Here's what they had to say. ⬇️ Fulton County Commissioner @TheDanaBarrett:

When I ran for a seat on the county commission I never thought I’d be facing jail time for doing my job – but here we are. Elections are under attack all across this country.

BREAKING: Fulton County Commissioners face potential arrest over GOP push to install widely regarded conspiracy theorists on Board of Elections.

The nominees, Julie Adams & Jason Frazier, are known operatives in Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” network. ⬇️ Adams (a board member seeking re-appointment) and Frazier are backed by the RNC + Georgia GOP.

Between them, they’ve refused to certify elections, sued the Fulton Election Board and led efforts to purge voters.

Today, the Fulton County Commission deadlocked 2–2.

🚨NEW: Russia-style takeover of elections?

Trump just announced a new executive order – he wants to use federal power to control elections.

This is a dangerous power grab and part of Republicans’ plan to rig 2026. ⬇️ Here’s what Trump says about the coming executive order:
–Eliminates mail voting
–Bans drop boxes
–Restricts absentee voting
–Strips states of authority to run elections

This puts elections under federal control – opposing the Constitution, which says states run elections. Image

Should voting be a limited privilege?

In America, it’s supposed to be a right.

But that’s not what the Supreme Court seems to think.

Their next ruling could empower states to block millions of Americans from voting. ⬇️ Image For generations, courts have been a place Americans can go to block discriminatory voting laws and maps.

But, as @AllegraLawHardy + @JoyceWhiteVance write, the Supreme Court has dismantled the Voting Rights Act – and now may make it harder to even access the courts at all. Image

12 Black educators and organizers were arrested in a rural South Georgia town.

Their crime? Helping neighbors vote.

This is the story of the Quitman 10+2 and the voter suppression playbook it inspired. ⬇️ Source, Yahoo News: The voter-fraud arrest story in the Quitman Free Press in 2010. Names of the Quitman 10+2 have been blurred in the image. In 2009, three Black women organized to flip seats on a white-majority school board in deeply segregated Brooks County, GA.

It was a quiet revolution – powered by mail ballots.

Their school board race wins should have been celebrated. Instead, they triggered a crackdown.

🚨Trump is trying to hijack the nonpartisan Election Assistance Commission to advance his voter suppression agenda.

Election denier activists are flooding the commission with comments in support.

Join us in fighting back – we can’t let them win. ⬇️ This is part of Trump’s plot to illegally control our elections through his Executive Order.

The SAVE Act passed the House and faces an uphill climb in the Senate – so he’s using the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to move forward.

Margaritas and “gang tattoos” – photo ops gone off the rails.

Authoritarian regimes use propaganda to distract from the truth.

Stalin did it. Mussolini did it. Trump’s doing it now.

Here’s how they game reality. ⬇️ Image Authoritarians want to look strong and in control.

So they stage photos, falsify images, and use media to mislead the public.

Bukele's people staged the margaritas to make it look like a casual hang out.

But no one drank them. It was a photo op.

What if I told you the real driver of MAGA’s plot to rig future elections isn’t Trump?

It’s a fringe lawyer you’ve never heard of.

But her blueprint is taking shape – and it could block millions of Americans from voting.

BIG story you may have missed this week. ⬇️ Image Cleta Mitchell helped Trump try to overturn the 2020 election – and she hasn’t stopped.

Now, she’s behind the SAVE Act, a bill that could block millions from registering to vote.

She even got a personal thank you from the bill’s sponsor when the House passed it last week. Image

🚨BREAKING: The U.S. House just passed the SAVE Act – a new MAGA voter suppression bill backed by Trump and his allies.

It’s not about protecting elections. It’s designed to save MAGA politicians from accountability at the ballot box.

Here’s what you need to know. ⬇️ Fair Fight Action CEO @GWLauren said it best:

"Let’s call this what it is: a desperate attempt by Trump and his MAGA allies to rig the rules, block millions from voting, and dodge accountability at the ballot box – it should be called the Save MAGA Politicians Act."

90 minutes. That's how long Trump rambled last night at the glitzy $35 million GOP dinner.

Most of it was the usual: lies, grievances, and weird love for tariffs.

But one line stood out – and it may reveal his real 2025 plan. ⬇️ Trump last night: "We're gonna get good elections pretty soon. There's a lot of clamor for it...the states are just an agent of the federal government."

That's wrong. The Constitution is clear: Congress and the states run elections. Not the president.

What do @CoryBooker's 25-hour protest speech, wins in Wisconsin and Louisiana, and 1,100+ rallies today have in common?

They’re all part of a growing movement to stop Trump & Elon Musk's attack on democracy.

It’s working – and it needs you. ⬇️ Democratic Senator Cory Booker speaks during a news conference following the weekly Senate Democrats policy luncheon at the US Capitol on March 4, 2025 in Washington, DC. © AFP The last person to speak this long in the Senate was Strom Thurmond, a segregationist filibustering civil rights.

This time, it was different.

Booker stood for 25+ hours without food or water to protest Trump and Musk's attack on freedom and the rule of law. Sen. Strom Thurmond, the longtime Democrat-turned-Republican from South Carolina, spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes in August 1957, to block a civil rights bill that eventually passed. (POLITICO)

“In four years, you don’t have to vote again.”

Trump said that last year - and it sounded like a punchline.

Now he’s trying to rewrite election law. And says he’s “not joking” about a third term. ⬇️ Last week, Trump signed an executive order that reads like a MAGA fever dream:

– Requires citizenship docs to register to vote
– Lets Musk’s DOGE access state voter rolls
– Threatens military & overseas ballots

It’s likely illegal, and designed to create chaos + silence you.
