Your marketing doesn’t need to reach all of them.

In fact, it shouldn’t.

How to find the right customers, readers, listeners, and social followers:
Twitter Advanced Search:

Filter hashtag or user data by number of RTs or Likes:

#skincare min_retweets:500
@amandanat min_faves:300

(Try the Twemex extension to see Likes directly on people's profiles)
Twitter Lists and Topics:

Find creators in your niche and look for the lists they created.

Scroll through the relevant Twitter Topics and make lists as you come across interesting people.

Follow the content and reply with your amazing insights. Using the View Lists functi...
Try this shortcut for Twitter Lists:

Look up a user's SparkScore. (Free @sparktoro tool!)

Under Related Accounts you'll see up to 9 accounts that user frequently engages with.

This may indicate they're in a similar niche, and you can add them all to your List.

Here's mine: In Amanda's SparkScore, rel...
LinkedIn Search:

Search for a job function that represents your ideal customer, and filter by location, 1st/2nd/3rd connection, etc.

If they post, engage with their content. Pay attention to others' replies too.

(Don't immediately slide into their DMs with a pitch. 😂)
Reddit:

Find a new and trending post. Jump in with a high-quality comment — one that's relevant, detailed, and ideally, has a link to your site.

@TheCoolestCool has the best Reddit tips:
Fast way to get Reddit data:

Do a SparkToro search to find:

• Popular Subreddits in your audience
• Words they use in Reddit comments

Example: People who talk about Taylor Swift...

Are really into Taylor Swift. 😜

They're also into Harry Potter, Euphoria, & Olivia Rodrigo. Top 3 popular Subreddits in...Additional popular Subreddi...Frequently used text in com...Frequently used text in com...
Slack, Circle, etc:

As you get to know more people on social media, you'll start to find private communities.

Like these marketing ones:

• All In: @BrendanHufford
• Swipe Files: @coreyhainesco
• Demand Curve: @GrowthTactics
• Forget the Funnel: @forgetthefunnel

Join them!
But this takes a lot of time.

And you'd still have to research the influential podcasts, blogs, and YouTube channels to:

• Consume
• Pay to sponsor
• Create content with
• Pitch yourself as a guest for

This will take you weeks. 🥵

So use SparkToro to save time. 💡
Example: You're an ecommerce marketer and want to speak on niche podcasts.

Think: What are the current pain points in my industry?

SparkToro search: My audience frequently talks about "supply chain."

Pitch yourself as a guest. SparkToro query that shows ...
Example: You sell makeup and want to partner with non-competitive brands.

Think: Who do I share an audience with?

SparkToro search: My audience frequently uses the hashtag "skincare"

Sort by Avg. # of Views.

Scroll and make a list of potential partners. SparkToro query that shows ...
Example: You need content ideas for your audience of nutritionists.

Think: What's top of mind for them?

SparkToro search: My audience uses these word(s) in their profile "nutritionist"

They might currently be into sweet potato recipes and gut health products! SparkToro query that shows ...
By the way...

If you're a SparkToro user, you have 3 always-free full queries in your dashboard.

You can see all the data you'd get in a paid plan.

That "nutritionist" query is in here too! 👀 Screenshot of the always-fr...

I'm a marketing executive.

But it's my third career. I was also a test kitchen cook. And prior to that, a journalist.

It's a tough world out there for creators...

Over half of Google searches end without a click.

And social media platforms ding you for linking out.

What to do?

Beat the platforms at their own game.

Make Zero-Click Content.

Here's how:
Zero-Click Content:

It offers valuable, standalone insights — with no need to click.

Clicking may be additive, but it’s not required.
Zero-Click Content is native to any platform:

• Twitter thread
• 60-second TikTok
• 200-word LinkedIn post
• etc etc

It’s easily consumed by anyone scrolling their feed, yet still provides value to the creator.

But...

People often ask me what platform to use for their newsletter.

And then the question of "rent vs. own" comes up.

A quick thread on how I think about it:
If you haven't published anything yet, you should choose whatever will be easiest for you.

And it's probably Substack.

(I know, blog/owned land maximalists are cringing.)
But it's important to note that Substack isn't a true blog. Nor an email service provider.

They're a blog/newsletter hybrid.

Like an RSS feed but with discoverability.

Also, your subs = Substack's subs

Constraints breed creativity.

Here are the constraints I give myself as a copywriter...

7 rules for better copywriting:
1/ One call-to-action.

What is the ONE action you want readers to take?

Buy your product? Register for your webinar?

Pick one.

Any more than that and you'll muddy up your message.

Don't be greedy.
2/ One messaging goal.

What is the ONE idea you want your readers to leave with?

Remember: the idea is not the call-to-action.

After they smash that subscribe button, you want your big idea to linger in their minds.

Recession or not, a lot of businesses are planning for it.

Here are 2 frameworks to keep your team laser focused:
1/ Common Currency

For: Revenue-driven teams

What is: Pick 1 north star and make sure everything you do leads to it.

Choose your common currency.

(h/t @kaylee_edmo)
@kaylee_edmo Examples of Common Currency:

• Sales-qualified events: Number of demos that leads actually show up to

• Retention: Projects that will reduce churn

• Conversion: Improving homepage CRO; free-to-paid; trial-to-paid; etc

There are more.

Stay focused on one "currency."

The best marketing ideas don't happen in that monthly strategy meeting.

They come from moments of scrappiness. Or serendipity.

Here are 16 ways to generate those creative ideas:
1/ Make a Twitter List for inspiration.

• 20 people you admire in your niche.

• 10 people in your target audience.

• 5 people you can see yourself mentoring.

Your feed becomes equally aspirational and actionable.

Better ideas will come to you naturally.
2/ Create your own personal Customer Advisory Board.

• Get to know 3 of your customers.

• Befriend the ones you easily get along with.

• Ask what challenges they're facing. Brainstorm solutions together. Share your ideas.
