Nothing better for #BannedBooksWeek than a thread of books recently rejected by the Allegheny County Jail!

EVERYONE deserves access to diverse, entertaining, educational, and current literature.
🧵
In 2020 the Allegheny County Jail tried to ban paper books from entering their facility. Warden Harper cited the pandemic as a reason.

This ban was lifted; however, the Warden now rejects titles that fall well within the posted guidelines for books being sent to incarcerated people.
Directly affecting quality of life for those incarcerated in a jail with limited mental health resources

Recently, @acj_comms defended the jail's approach to literature calling the aging library "robust" and also highlighting the books avaliable on the tablets.
The tablets are at times shared, have short batteries, and contain a lot of paid content.
These are barriers to access.
If you feel that people in the Allegheny County Jail deserve access to the books sent to them, #rt this and ask @acj_comms why the following titles were rejected.

You can also ask @ACE_Fitzgerald why he has done nothing about this issue.
@Connellybooks are always requested but the Allegheny County Jail rejects them.
Why were the following titles rejected for those incarcerated?
The Black Ice
Trunk Music
The Law of Innocence
Angel's Flight
The Closers

Books by Black authors are often rejected when sent to incarcerated people at the ACJ.
HIGHLY requested titles by @novelista & @RealJaQuavis are often rejected and sent back.
Why can't these books be read?
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Dirty Money
Supreme Clientele
Money Devils
Speaking of books rejected by the ACJ, the @repjohnlewis and @andrewaydin books "Run" and "March" were recently refused.

What is it about the Civil Rights Movement that the Allegheny County Jail wants to keep incarcerated people from reading?
#BannedBooksWeek
@JohnGrisham had several of his titles rejected by the ACJ. Ask why they don't want incarcerated people reading "The Firm" and "The Innocent Man".
Apparently "Creative Drawing Prompts" is worthy of a ban as well.
The book "Twisted Twenty-Six" by @janetevanovich was apparently too much for the ACJ Warden and he rejected the book, denying access to incarcerated people.

Ask him why?
These are just SOME of the titles the Allegheny County Jail has rejected. If you are a book lover, book nerd, reader, writer, or concerned citizen, retweet and ask why the ACJ is rejecting books
@PGHPBP @AbolitionistLC @citybookspgh @whitewhalebks @carnegielibrary
Apparently the Allegheny County Jail doesn’t feel that incarcerated people should be able to read the books that the @netflix show The Lincoln Lawyer is based off of.

They’ve rejected the @Connellybooks titles that were sent for incarcerated people to read.
