I've always found it disturbing when white people dismiss slavery by saying, I wasn't there, it was a long time ago. No, it wasn't that long ago. My mother, who grew up in the 50's, was babysat by her great-grandmother who had been enslaved. She still
carried the paranoia of every day life as a captive human. The dresses she sewed for herself had hidden pockets where, just in case, she could hide food or valuables. Not only did we inherit stories like this, but we inherit the stress as well.
We shouldn't have to worry about our freedom again. And no one should have to worry about their rights being taken away in this country. Don't vote for people who are eager to do that. #DemVoice#OurBlueVoice
Btw, her name was Katie Banks. She was enslaved in Eufaula, Alabama. Her family managed to buy land there after slavery, but it was taken in a massacre in around 1890 or so.
