Somnath Jyotirling is one of the main Jyotirlings of Mahadev which is located in Gujarat. A few years ago, on the orders of the Prime Minister of India and Trustee of Somnath Mandir, Shri Narendra Modi, research work was started in Somnath Mandir.
The work of this research was started by many teams in which the Archaeological Department team, IIT, Gandhinagar and many other teams were working together. Experts started the investigation work under the ground with modern machines worth about 5 crores.
After doing a GPR investigation about 12 meters below the ground, it was found that there is a big building below the ground and also the Pravesh Dwar. After 1 year of research, the Archaeological Department handed over a report of 32 pages to the Somnath Mandir Trust.
It was told in the report that under the Mandir courtyard there is a building in L shape which can be three-storeyed. There are also Buddhist caves around the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, located at a distance from the Digvijay Dwar of the Somnath Mandir.
