Mike Lux: We've actually got a president who cares about manufacturing & wants to see us creating more jobs. We've barely scratched the surface but we're already seeing results. @ProgressiveLux
Mike Lux: We need to start making things again like they do in Germany--very high wage economy. You can have a high wage economy that still makes things. @ProgressiveLux
Rick: One thing we've learned during the pandemic: in times of need, you produce what you need domestically. We didn't have that capability because our production was done overseas. Manufacturing is a national security issue, esp. w/ high-tech items. #RickShow
Mike Lux: Now we've got Biden who's really thinking about how to build more things in America, about bringing jobs back to America. The very first bill he passed had Buy American provisions in it. @ProgressiveLux
Mike Lux: Clinton & Obama were both good about certain things on certain issues but neither of them really "got" working people. The Democratic party moved away from its base. We were always supposed to be about workers; somewhere we lost sight of that. @ProgressiveLux
Mike Lux: The bill that's been in place the longest was the Recovery Act. It's still going strong. @ProgressiveLux
Mike Lux: Democrats have to do a better job of selling what they did. What they've accomplished under Biden's leadership is phenomenal. We beat Big Pharma! As a result, drug prices will be going down. @ProgressiveLux
Mike Lux: I have a friend in the solar industry, & the day the Inflation Reduction Act was passed, they announced a new solar plant in WV, 3000 jobs, & they'll be expanding their workforce to build solar panels here in America. @ProgressiveLux
Mike Lux: My friend in the solar industry had been shut out before because China was building solar panels so much more cheaply. @ProgressiveLux
Bob Ney: I think the story is true that Trump was one tweet away from firing Ivanka & Jared. I think Ivanka & Jared probably knew that at any point in time there's a tweet in the bank.
Rick: Ivanka was the special one, beyond reproach.
Bob: No one is above Trump. @bobney
Bob Ney: Ivanka would have still been around but with a different title. How crazy is it that Trump would have fired his own daughter with a tweet? Twitter should have kept Trump around for the advertising.
Rick: Keep "crazy" front & center so we can keep an eye on them. @bobney
Bob Ney: Trump repeatedly asked to bomb the Mexican drug labs.
Rick: I don't know how I feel about that.
Bob: One of the top officials in the health organization suggested they [drug labs] be put as a target to stop the flow of drugs. Go after drug lords. @bobney
Peter Olney: I want to point out that PA native Joe Biden put pressure on Gov. Newsom to sign the farmworkers bill. @olneyrom
Rand Wilson: We're getting favorable decisions b/c of Pres. Biden's relationship w/ the NLRB. There's something fundamentally wrong when the company you've organized is at a disadvantage b/c non-union companies have lower costs. We need to move to sectoral bargaining. @randwilson
Peter Olney: My union, the Int'l Longshore & Warehouse Union, has sectoral bargaining. There are large areas of the country, esp. the southeast, where the auto industry is no longer union. We need to get the auto industry back to sectoral bargaining. @olneyrom
Caller Andrew, Detroit: I truly believe we need to tax the very wealthy in this country but be careful of taxing corporations--won't they just push the increased taxes onto consumers? #RickShow
Caller Andrew, Detroit: 40 years ago the inflation rate was 17% & we did that to ourselves. Today's inflation is about 8% & it's global. #RickShow
Caller Andrew, Detroit: What about windfall profit taxes on these companies?
Rick: I'm all for it. Larger corporations pay more. A higher tax rate does change the incentives; at least that's my take on it. #RickShow
Rick Wilson: I'm in north FL; we're praying hard for the folks in Orlando. The storm is a 2 or 3 as it approaches Orlando. No one will wake up in the a.m. & wonder if Joe Biden's response is to throw paper towels. @TheRickWilson@ProjectLincoln
Rick Wilson: It's not just responding to the technical aspects of the storm; it's how we respond to the people involved. Andrew punched Miami & then went into the Everglades. Ian will be so much worse. @TheRickWilson@ProjectLincoln
Rick: Not everyone has the ability to evacuate for every scare. Some people have no choice but to hunker down.
Rick Wilson: Because we have such a large population of seniors & of people who live in mobile homes, it's hard to organize it & to get ppl to leave. @TheRickWilson
Beth Howard: Showing up for Racial Justice is the largest organization that integrates white people into the fight for racial justice. Working people have the most to gain by being in solidarity with each other. @ShowUp4RJ@jbethiejean
Beth Howard: Those at the top want to divide us, & they'll use race to do that. We have so much to gain when we come together. @ShowUp4RJ@jbethiejean
Beth Howard: We need to get away from blue state/red state & look at it as working people/those at the top. @ShowUp4RJ@jbethiejean
Scott Paul: When foreign investment comes into the US, it's subject to approval by CFIUS, The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. @ScottPaulAAM@KeepitMadeinUSA
Scott Paul: The administration is looking to see if big investments US companies are making overseas are safe or if they are a risk to national security. @ScottPaulAAM@KeepitMadeinUSA
Rick: We're moving towards a system with 5G where cars will be talking to each other. I worry about China having anything to do with that technology.(Con't) #RickShow
