The ground-breaking ceremony for the Hwange power station expansion was held in June 2018, while the main construction works were started in March 2019.
The Hwange power station, which already has six coal-fired generating units, is being expanded with two additional (7and8) coal-fired units of 300MW capacity each.
The power station is expected to generate more than 60% of Zimbabwe’s electricity needs following the expansion.
Australia’s Invictus Energy has begun drilling the Mukuyu-1 exploration well in Zimbabwe.
The company spudded the well on September 24, targeting a total depth of 3,500 metres. It said this should take around 50-60 days to complete.
Mukuyu is one of the largest exploration prospects to drill this year. Invictus has reported a prospective resource potential of 20 trillion cubic feet and 845 million barrels of gas condensate, equivalent to 4.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent on a gross mean unrisked basis.
Invictus managing director Scott Macmillan described the start of drilling as “an exciting and long-anticipated moment for Invictus and our shareholders”.
Second Republic leader, President Emerson Mnangagwa adopted policies to attract the young and educated to do farming.
About 57 per cent of Zimbabwean women between ages 20 and 31 and 47 per cent of men in the same age bracket are growing fruits such as mangoes, involved in rearing livestock such as the prolific breeders Boer goats, and cultivating tobacco.
Also, Zimbabwe’s structural economic transformation, from traditional office and factory jobs to informal entrepreneurship, is now extended to the agricultural sector, catching the attention of young farmers.
