Thousands of people are getting #LongCovid each day, many of which lead to ME/CFS, POTS, & other lifelong illnesses. We need clinical trials & treatments urgently!
This is a big responsibility & I will do my best to represent our communities well. So many patients with #LongCovid & ME/CFS brought light to the illness & continue to fight for better research, resources, & treatment. We all deserve this recognition.

And thank you to the wider #LongCovid, ME/CFS (#pwME), and disability communities. This is collective work and I hope this results in more awareness of viral-onset conditions and support for patient-led initiatives.

"The following day, chronic disease advocates protested in front of the White House, arguing that #LongCovid and the related condition myalgic encephalomyelitis constitute a public-health emergency."

“We’re in the middle of the greatest mass-disabling event in human history,” says #LongCovid patient and advocate @loscharlos.
And unless people wake up to the long-term consequences of COVID-19, it is “going to continue taking folks out like fish in a barrel.”

"There's an amazing community of post-viral researchers. These people aren't confused by #LongCovid, they don't describe it as a mystery, they understand what happens after viruses, they knew this was coming. There needs to be a general education program on postviral illness." 1/
"There are a couple major theories of what causes #LongCovid & there are a multitude of treatments to trial based on those theories. We need a large scale clinical trial program that takes into consideration the timepoint in the illness, because that's a factor." 2/
"We have no treatments for #LongCovid...the only thing we know right now is early rest & pacing. So many employers are rushing people back to work, we see so many people exercising & trying to push through, so allowing both adequate & extensive time off is really important." 3/
Refuting your opponent’s narrative means they are still in control of the narrative. So doctors/allies saying “Long Covid is not in their heads” or “Long Covid is real” still uses the language of the opponent (in this case minimizers) to contextualize Long COVID.
1/
Instead, take an active stance. This could include contextualizing LC in history or including a fact you would like to see associated with LC. My preference is to highlight biomedical findings in simple terms.

“Like mono & SARS-1, SARS-2 also leads to long term sequelae”
“Long Covid happens to all age groups”
“Long Covid research consistently shows endothelial damage & microclots”
“Long Covid is associated with POTS & ME/CFS”
“Blood tests like x & y are abnormal in #LongCovid”
etc.

The brain's drainage system has been theorized to be dysfunctional in ME/CFS.
In fact, the first time Dr. Fauci mentioned #LongCovid in July 2020, he said that it looked like ME/CFS & that there might be cribriform drainage issues. 1/
Brain drainage is important because it clears waste & CSF from the brain. It is related to Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, etc.
Recently, a paper came out showing a new imaging technique to look at brain drainage (specifically, meningeal lymphatics). 2/
The imaging showed an extensive meningeal lymphatic network around the cavernous sinus in the back of the skull - where people with #LongCovid and #pwME often have severe headaches....
