This is an interesting thread looking into the "Who done it" of the NS-1 & NS-2 sabotage & some game theory on the suspects.

I'm going to highlight one the tweets from the thread to reintroduce the "Irrational Regime Hypothesis"🧵 as an explanation for the behaviors

1/
...you are seeing from Putin's Russia.

@EmmaMAshford makes an extremely astute point that modern political science and foreign policy academics have not been particularly...umm...call it 'reality based' vis a' vis the foreign policy of Putin's Russia.
2/
I don't hold this against those academics for acting in their own interests in avoiding sticking their necks out & getting chopped for being right.

First, I lived 33 years inside the iron rice bowl of US military procurement.

Upton Sinclair had the line describing both
3/ Image
...place's incentives.

Which takes us all to the "Irrational Regime Hypothesis" that templates & describes the behaviors of regimes/institutions with no clear line of succession whose leadership factions vie for power by telling the 'Guy in Charge'

4/
...what he wants to hear regardless of objective reality to gain power at the expense of other power factions.

I laid out the concept in March 2022 & pointed out Foreign Policy Academics gave me the hypothesis.

5/
The "Irrational Regime Hypothesis" thread was to be both a descriptive then and a marker against future events, like the bombing of the NS-1 & NS-2 pipelines.

6/
I laid out example of several regimes who fit the "Irrational Regime Hypothesis" and its origins in the early 2000's in the comments sections of foreign policy related social media blogs.

7/
I believe @EmmaMAshford is correct that the most likely suspect for the NS-1 & NS-2 bombings is Russia, but not for game theory reasons, but rather for reasons of Means, Motives and Opportunity.

The "Irrational Regime Hypothesis" explains the motive.
8/
With all due respect to people like OSINT people like @CovertShores, divers, mini-subs and remotely operated vehicles are simply too risky for this sort of thing.

Pipeline logistics 101 explains both the means & opportunity.

BLUF: Every pipeline has pumping (liquid) or
9/
...compression stations (gas) every so often to keep product moving and never stop moving.

To do maintenance on pipelines you have hatches where you can insert maintenance equipment called 'pipeline pigs' that do it.

10/ ImageImageImage
Pigs move with the product flow disrupting product delivery as little as possible depending on the type.

If you are going to blow an undersea pipeline, putting an explosive in a pipeline pig is low risk.

This takes us to the next point regarding compressor stations for
11/ Image
...undersea natural gas pipelines.

The best of them are long lead item capitol equipment from the western energy industrial sector.

My guess is the simultaneous explosions six kilometers apart on both NS-1 & NS-2 pipelines bracketed a compressor stations in each one.

12/
The best & highest pressure under sea compressor stations are spaced at 536 km (333 miles) apart while the low pressure compressor stations are spaced at 322 km (200-mile) in the case study I found. (Link)

13/
jmcampbell.com/tip-of-the-mon…
Whatever kind of compressor stations the NS-1 & NS-2 pipelines used.

They had the Baltic Sea compress a six kilometer long pipeline volume of ignited natural gas onto these stations, destroying them utterly.

14/
Thus, there is no way either pipeline will ever be used again without the Western sanctions on the Russian energy sector being lifted to replace the undersea natural gas pipeline compressor stations for NS-1 & NS-2.

Thus putting Germany on-side with Russia to lift them ASAP.
15/
This is the sort of "Cunning but stupid" move that irrational regimes do.

It reminds me of nothing so much as the African-American Sheriff in the movie Blazing Saddles taking himself hostage to get away from racist town folks
16/
imdb.com/title/tt007123… Image
...who were going to shoot him for being an African-American. (Yes, they were that dumb.)

Certainly the German Parliaments vote to prevent the transfer of German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, before the Russian sabotage, was a strong factor in Putin 'taking himself hostage.'

17/
Speaking of dumb, the signal the German Parliament actually sent with that vote was "please detonate the natural gas pipelines our economy depends upon."

Which rather takes us back to @EmmaMAshford's point about 'clear foreign policy messaging' being anything but.

"Between #Torske and #Kreminna it has become a no man's land, there are likely to be Ukrainian reconnaissance and infiltration units around, making it a shooting gallery for anyone who crosses it."

The entire road out of Lyman is under Ukrainian drone observed artillery fire with MARS-M270 rocket delivered German AT-2 mines to pin Russian columns in the artillery kill jar.

It's all over for the Russian Lyman force, save for the details of its bloody annihilation.

We are seeing a Russian "Lanchester Square Collapse" in progress👇

1/
This Lanchester curve was visible in the Russian truck fleet for a while.

Now the lack of Russian truck logistics is causing the Russian collapse...

...that is catching up with Russian field forces the way it caught up with Imperial Japanese air forces in the 1943 South Pacific.

English:

According to my position, chemical weapons were used. This is not a joke. Doctors say that the thing is not fatal, but it is difficult for the boys. Due to the castration of the "civilized" world, we will someday wait for the stars. I freaked out to be honest

Ru WMD 🧵
This is no surprise as the Russians have already used chemical weapons in Mariupol.

Russia used a spray-drone on the Azov Btn there as a part of their "Special Operation" because "Ukrainian Nazis deserved it."

Western defense analysts went into deep denial over that fact.
2/
The DC De-escalation faction is making increased Russian WMD use inevitable by denying Ukraine the F-16's, ATACMS, M-1 Abrams tanks, & Bradley fighting vehicles it has been asking for to win quickly.

AFU is using German MLRS rocket delivered anti-tank/anti-vehicle mines to block Russian vehicle movement on the last main supply road to Lyman at Torske in Eastern Ukraine.

FYI, while Iranian Drone trucks can hide amongst other trucks.

Iranian electronic warfare awareness about Drone C3I radio emissions needs a lot of work.

Short Electronic Warfare 🧵

1/4
Electronic warfare 101 -- Always use radio transmission antennas remote from your command center.

Electronic Warfare 201 - Always put a decoy command center next to the remote transmitting antennas.

2/4
Electronic Warfare 301 - Always have a radio silent backup command center with your best technology, signals & maintenance people there because the enemy always gets a vote.

Since most militaries never truly practice robust EW, and are thus plug ignorant of EW 101 thru 301.

For those who have missed the implications of text in this map clip, the Russian Rybar channel is reporting the Ukrainian light mechanized 'Cossacks' to its rear now.

Lyman's main resupply road is logistically cut off from unescorted truck resupply convoys.

1/ Image
And what Rybar is representing here is the best case for Russian forces still in Lyman.

There is still a chance of either Russian relief columns or a break out & retreat.

But the clock is ticking as these Ukrainian light forces are going to be setting up mined road blocks
2/
...to stop Russian logistical movements into and out of Lyman.

A mined roadblock covered by heavy machine guns, mortars, plus possible light AFV autocannon and ATGM, is a serious delay for any Russian combat unit escorted truck column.
