When it comes to the no good truly terrible Supreme Court, I keep thinking the @FedSoc 6 have become an arm of the Christofascist project to basically erase marginalized people from society. It's a project that is inherently steeped in whiteness.
Think about the cases this term:
SFFA v. Harvard: The Court will kill affirmative action, destroying Black and brown access to higher education while preserving white legacy admissions, thus making it difficult for Black people to improve their economic circumstances & easier for white people to improve theirs.
Brackeen (Indian Child Welfare Act case): White grievance is going to lead to Native American children being removed from their homes & having their connections to their tribes and culture purposefully severed. It's an effort to erase indigenous people and culture from society.
The independent legislature theory case (Moore v. Harper): North Carolina wants to literally overturn the will of the people—mostly Black and brown voters—to ensure that a Republican will ALWAYS win. That's an erasure of Black and brown voters' ability to participate in democracy
The Voting Rights Act case (Merrill v. Milligan): This Court is going to smash the final nail in the coffin of the Voting Rights Act by gutting Section 2 which prohibits discrimination in voting on the basis of race. The Court already gutted Sections 4 and 5 nine years ago.
This is what John Roberts has dreamed of since the early 80s when he was at the DOJ in the Reagan. Dude might as well retire after this term. His mission on killing the VRA will be mostly complete. Sorry Black and brown people. You don't get a say in your future anymore.
303 Creative (the Colorado web designer case aka Masterpiece Cakeshop 2): This is an effort to limit if not erase entirely LGBTQ people's participation in society on the grounds that "granting them extra rights" (like the right to buy cakes) infringes on their religious liberty.
The web designer in the 303 Creative case was NEVER EVEN ASKED TO BUILD A WEBSITE FOR A SAME SEX COUPLE.
No reason for the Court to have taken this case—just like there was no reason to take Dobbs—but the Court is on its Christofascist mission and will not be deterred.
So you should really start looking at everything this Court does through a lens of "does it advance the white Christian nationalist project of cishet white male dominance in the United States." If the answer is yes, the Court will find a way to issue rulings in that direction.
this thread is just a continuation of these thoughts:
Monday, @Hegemommy and I will have a barn burner of a #BoomLawyered season opener which will cover all of this AND MORE, so you're not going to want to miss it!
Plus it's going to be on video, so that's fun.
October 5! Strap in!
It's October 3, actually! My bad!

I propose we get all of these grifters out of the paint. They are taking money and lining their own pockets while doing NOTHING to help with any of the myriad human rights crises we are facing right now.
I have started another playthrough of #Skyrim to celebrate the ten year anniversary of me leaving private practice, being mostly unemployed and searching for a good hobby for a clinically depressed person. “You should get an Xbox 360,” my friend Aaron said to me. And here we are.
He told me to buy Skyrim and Halo to see what kind of games I like. So I loved Skyrim and couldn’t shoot for shit at the time so Halo was out.
Then in 2016, Overwatch came out and some of the @blackgirlgamers at the time were nice enough to let me play with them. So I became their Mercy. Then slowly I started learning to shoot. And now I am a damn good sniper.
One more week until the worst Supreme Court term in modern history. And you thought last term was bad. This term is when they cement white dominance into law so hang on to your butts especially if they are non-white.
The Supreme Court could decide this term that bigots have a religious right to refuse service to LGBTQ people.
THIS term.
So the neo-Lavender Scare that has been going on has a purpose. It’s to whip up public sentiment against LGBTQ folks so people will be more complacent.
If you’re straight, cis, white, and Christian, boy howdy you are good to go though.
When asked why Clarence Thomas didn't list interracial marriage as one of the substantive due process rights that is on the line, Melissa had this to say:
This is racist and you should delete it. This is white Christian nationalism. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Taliban. How can we fight white Christian nationalism if people refuse to name it?
Abortion law in Afghanistan is less restrictive than in Ohio, btw.
