First things first, no one should have to be pregnant who doesn't want to be. Abortion ends unwanted pregnancies and prevents people from having to experience the very real trauma that the physical and emotional impacts an unwanted pregnancy can cause.
Abortions are also life- and health-saving medical care. We are “pro” health care of all kinds!
The medical system must support anyone in need of an abortion for any reason, and destigmatizing such care - and ensuring it's taught in medical schools - should make it more accessible in cases of medical emergencies (once we’ve codified abortion rights federally, anyway).
The risk of unwanted pregnancy will not and should not have to prevent consenting adults from having sex. That's why we're also VERY pro contraception access (make it all free!!!).
However, sometimes contraception fails or isn't available. Emergency contraception or abortion are completely valid options in those cases and should be accessible without jumping through hoops or having to justify anything.
And let's not forget, in cases of rape, contraception isn't usually a factor. Victims (especially minors) might also be unable to access emergency contraception. Every rape victim deserves access to abortion care free of judgment or stigmatization.
Considering how underreported rape is, we also can't really quantify what percentage of abortions occur because of rape. If we want every rape victim to have access to abortion care, abortions need to be accessible to all.
Another thing: No one is having “abortions up to the point of birth.” That's just birth.
When later abortions are required, there are almost always a few heartbreaking reasons:
1) Fatal fetal abnormalities in wanted pregnancies that parents choose to end to prevent unnecessary suffering. 2) Immediate threat to maternal life or health. 3) An inability to access care earlier - i.e. b/c the pregnancy was discovered late or b/c of financial barriers.
Adoption is also not an alternative to abortion. It's an alternative to parenting.
No one should feel pressured into carrying a pregnancy and giving a baby up for adoption because abortion is stigmatized or prohibited.
When we frame the issue of abortion around "choice," we ignore the fact that for too many people, abortion is not easily accessible.
"Choice" makes it seem like getting an abortion is as easy as making the decision. It is not.
Structural and societal barriers leave far too many pregnant people without full access to abortion care.
If there's only one abortion provider within a couple hundred miles of you, that means you have to organize transportation & perhaps child care & take time off work or school, all on top of having the money to pay for the procedure.
If you live in a state where abortion is banned, it's even harder.
These barriers disproportionately impact communities of color and low-income families. They take away choice.
That is not reproductive freedom.
Finally, any reason is the “right reason” for abortion:
Financial insecurity. Because you're not ready for a child, never want kids, or already have the children you want. Because a pregnancy would make leaving an abusive relationship harder. Or just because you don't want to be pregnant.
Abortion is a difficult choice for some and an easy decision for others. Both experiences are valid.
Either way, the vast majority of people who have abortions do not regret them.
1 in 4 people who can get pregnant will have an abortion in their lifetimes. They should feel supported in every possible way in that decision.
We are pro-abortion because: We need to affirm that it is completely ok to have abortions. We want to make it easier to discuss our experiences with abortion. We're committed to destigmatizing abortion care & making it legal & accessible to anyone who wants one.
We respect anyone who has had an abortion for any reason. Abortion is not bad, and framing it as bad just perpetuates the shame and silence around abortion care, leaving people who have had them feeling alone.
Abortions make it possible to determine the course of our lives and futures. Safe, readily available abortion - free of social judgment - is a good thing.
RT if you are pro-abortion.

@AllAboveAll We are a coalition of more than 150 local, state, and national partners and a catalyst for #AbortionJustice. That means we are fighting for a world where abortion care is affordable, available, accessible, and supported for everyone who needs it.
@AllAboveAll At All* Above All, we know that racism, economic insecurity, and immigration status can multiply the already massive barriers to abortion care–and our solutions must incorporate racial, economic, and immigrant justice.
If you follow our account, you know that we get a lot of hate from TERFs & "Gender Criticals" for supporting LGBTQ+ folks.
Their harassment doesn't scare us & won't ever stop us from joining in solidarity with trans people — our fights are inseparably linked. #Thread.
The same Trump Republicans who are working so hard to ban abortion are doing all they can to make it impossible for trans people to live openly & safely. It all comes down to their disrespect for bodily autonomy.
Far-right extremists (who are natural allies of the TERF/GC movement) believe that THEY should have power over the lives of women, trans folks, nonbinary people — really anyone who isn't a cis white man.
Medication abortions up to 10 weeks can be safely self-managed at home + pills can be bought online.

Let's talk Andrew Tate, Johnny Depp, Marilyn Manson, & the pervasive culture of misogyny and sexism that puts women in danger every single day.🧵
Andrew Tate is an American-British TikToker & former pro boxer. He was kicked off "Big Brother" when a video surfaced that appeared to show Tate hitting a woman with a belt. He's also a misogynistic POS.
He's been accused of rape & charged with sexual assault. He was investigated for trafficking a woman who claimed Andrew & his brother kidnapped her.
Tate says that rape victims "bear some responsibility." He believes women “belong in the home" & are a “man’s property."
We got some transphobes BIG mad the other day so let us spell it out for you:
“Women” is a term that encompasses cis & trans women.
When we talk about “people who can give birth,” it's because those people aren't all women! They're girls, trans men, & non-binary ppl.
Some of y'all really struggle with the concept of "assigned sex” vs "gender identity" and it shows!!
Women's March is committed to creating equality for women & a feminist future for all.
We fight for rights that primarily (but not exclusively!) impact women. We fight for a world where ALL women are safe from gender-based violence, discrimination, and hate.
