Cannot be reiterated enough: All the people like @ggreenwald or @aaronjmate, the effort they put into not only rationalizing industrialized torture and methodical chemical weapons use. It always centered around keeping Assad in power.
How deranged is it when people, Syrians tell you the different aspects of horror that the regime has upon the region, these ASSADISTS always double down.

The very point they are trying to make exonerates Syrians call to depose Assad. The giant complexes needed to manufacture and maintain chemical weapons (under Russian supervision later on) would not be possible under a central government-less Syria.
