Thoughts on #PonniyanSelvan1 #PS1 from a person who has read and loved the book!

If it was marketed to be loosely based on the book, focusing on certain parts of the story (i.e just inspired from the book) it might have worked. This is no way the movie version of the book (cont)

I am well aware that its impossible to make 5 books into movies and well expected details from the book to be left out, but there was absolutely no need to change major parts of the movie.
Multiple situations have been changed to keep narrative focused on AK vs Nandini when the

story is much much more than that. The strength of Kakli's writing is how he establishes the characters. They are all different and have great depth. If you ask 10 people who've read the book, their fav characters will all be different coz that's how its written. Reducing the

characters is total injustice and hence please do not ever call this a PS movie. When there's is a strong story and characterisation already available in the book, what's the need to change it soo much?

Well coming to the movie itself, ARR is the hero ❤️ We are all soo blessed to be living in the era!

Loved the art interms of the sets, dresses, jewelry, all their looks etc. Happy to see a period drama rooted in Tamil culture 😍

Karthi was born to play #Vanthiyathevan, he fits too perfectly and is really loveable!

But VV is not just a flirt or comic character. His strength is how he tactfully solves multiple hurdles, which I wish was shown more because people deserve to know the actual Vanthiyathevan!

#Kundavai & #Nandini are both perfectly portrayed and have absolutely no complaints about.
Its such a treat to see Aish potrying such a story role and I cannot imaging anyone else playing this! Cannot wait for Mandaagini 😍

Jayam Ravi as PS - like everyone I had my own doubts and he has definitely exceeded expectations and done his role well.
But PS is a person who is unanimously loved by all the people and family. Anyone who meets him gets awestruck. He has that power and Charisma. He speaks less

but his gentle mannerisms just attracts people. Unfortunately the role is not written (in the movie) to convey all this. He is made just a brother of AK. PS is my most fav character from the book and I'm gutted people don't get to know the real him 💔

Aishwarya Lekshmi looks very convincing as Poonguzhali.

But Poonguzhali is much much more interesting, intelligent and beautifully weird.
She is not just another boat women who loves PS. She is the soul of the story and is really a game changer of the story in Lanka!

Vikram as AK is just perfect. I have always imagined him in this role!
He beautifully conveys the depth and layers of emotions!

Just wish other characters were given as much importance as AK and Nandini :((

Have always imagine Vivek as Aalvaarkadiyan, but Jayaram plays the role very convincingly and comedy is 💯

The only casting very questionable is Vanathi's
Mayangi mayangi vizhanum, akka akka nu pesanum, there's nothing really complex with this character but Sobhitha disappoints!

My two most favorite scenes from the book are Ragasiya Nilavarai and Ponniyn Selvan intro which are both shot very disappointingly 💔

Aabathuthavigal meet, the meen vaazh, Senthan Amuthan's mom, the political knowledge of Anirudha Brahmarayar are all important details that adds to the depth of the story. By skipping all thse its now become just a string of scenes with a shallow plot.

Omg how did I forget Devaraalan Aatam?
ARR has soo beautifully composed this song but Devaraalan yaaru ethukaaga aadraanga enna background nu ethume sollama 🥲 totally dilutes the understanding of people who haven't read apro athuku 3mins othuki enna use?
