#hurricaneian @NHC_Atlantic @winknews @MattDevittWINK @weatherchannel @backinblack_wx my thoughts on Ian, a thread. In SWFL for 32 years and 19 tropical system eyes within 60 miles of house,
have had my experiences. First I have to thank my son Brandon. He is a meteorologist at @NWSMobile He has kept me safe through numerous weather events often from a far. He beats himself up during these events when things dont go as planned but I know he is doing his
absolute best with the info he has to keep his entire family informed. He needs to try to remember property can be replaced, lives can not and that is what he has saved so thank you, you saved lives. Henry is grateful. Cant put into words how proud and thankful I am of you
To all the men & women of @NWS @NWSTampaBay @NWSMiami @NWSWPC @NHC_Atlantic you are unsung hero’s. You work in small bunkers at times putting yourself in harms way to get the forecasts, warnings and info out.
Tv crews are the ones people see and remember but they would not have that info to give without you. You warn us, inform us and save us often from ourselves. Most don’t know who you are or what you do, but thank you for doing it.
Also do need to thank the local news crews, particularly @winknews. Since my early days experiencing Andrew we had Jim Rief to then Jim Ferrell through countless storms now @MattDevittWINK has taken that torch
Your calm voice, info not hype helps so many in these stressful situations. You also saved lives and just kept people calm. We thank you for your humor sincerity and compassion. Your whole weather crews did an amazing job and that shows your leadership
@loisthometv @ChrisCifatte thank you to the news team as well. I have been around since Lois took the anchor, you are always a calm voice but what really shines is your compassion for people and the whole SWFL community. You and Chris were amazing through this before and after,
And I know you will continue to be a shining light through the aftermath. all the news stations did a great job but wink and its team is still the best. The line crews that live here and those that left families in other states to come help us thank you
I ribbed @LCECtweets about power but they do an amazing job and the crews just dont quit. Although I do have power back, many dont and wont for a long time but it will come on again thanks to these amazing crews @CityofMarcoISL Jeff and his crew are top notch. Thank you
We never lost water/sewer even when island was under feet of salt water. The prep/planning that goes into that remarkable feat shows. All city workers, police, fire need to be commended for an outstanding job before and after.
To the storm chasers, @iCyclone @ReedTimmerAccu @AlaStormTracker @Hurricanedog24 @LiveStormsMedia @JimCantore you guys are nuts and i love it. Done it myself at times. But i know the information you get, video evidence you have will help those like my son learn more about these
storms. You put yourself at risk so other can learn and make better predictions in the future to help us all. I get it is an income for some, but it does have a purpose. Thank you
finally Ian itself, been through a lot over the years but WOW. As my son said Ian had a little to much rum in the Caribbean it wobbled like a toddler learning how to walk. wind was not the worse here but water was. when they give surge numbers and say that is the 10% worse case
we all say ya sure, no more ya sure, it happens. Water kept rising, finally got into garage. Got 3 inches in & stopped. Amazing relief to see it start to go down. No damage just cleaning. The stress i felt as it rose was more than any other storm including Irma. This helped!
Irma had wind but that can be protected, water can not. It goes where it wants and takes what it wants. In the end i am amazingly fortunate. There are many here on Marco, Goodland, Isles of Capri that were not. Thankfully just property, that can be replaced. But to the North!
Devastating, heartbreaking disaster. Many lost their life and we greave for their families. Many are still with us but lost everything else. Families, business, schools changed forever. Mother Nature can be an amazing site to see but she can also be a complete bitch.
We will rebuild, we will live on as we always do. We are strong as a people, a nation and a community. A lot will be studied about Ian, they will learn from it to make projections better. I know Brandon and his NWS co-workers are already doing it.
Please hug your family today, tell them you love them. If you can help those here please donate to Red Cross or there is a fund setup here locally to help those in SWFL collaboratory.org/swflemergencyr… thank you be safe
#HurricanIan 1 thing i will never get used to after a storm is the smell. It is the smell of death. Not human thankfully but natures death. What salt water touches it kills. Wet rotting veg critters that did not survive worse of all the sea life stranded as water recedes. Smell a
Full moon low tide when areas are out of water for the first time in months, it takes over your nose. Those without power it permeates the house. People dont need rain but nature does. Eventually it will subside and the beauty of nature will return
