Inspired by the #FarewellMarks trending today, I thought I would write a thread about everything that we boycott in our household. Usually it's because of gender ideology and woman hatred. But a few special mentions for other reason, including 'bad dad' ads and the like. 🧵
@marksandspencer is part of my Terf origin story. I was browsing the website looking for some new knickers. Started reading reviews; they were like soft core porn, obvs written by men. And 'upvoted' by other men. I wrote to M&S, found someone on their web team. 2/
Explained it was easy to spot these patterns and make the reviews disappear. They replied that all reviews were moderated by a human being and legitimate. An eye opener. The OH spotted the TIM in the local M&S. And turns out they are a bra fitter. 3/ #FarewellMarks
I was looking on M&S for knickers 'coz @VictoriasSecret had expanded their range of bra sizes and hired a TIM model. I had been trying to buy bras that fit me there for years but had contented myself with knickers, pys, yoga clothes, etc. Size range expanded for a TIM 4/
No more VS for me. Next it was @johnlewishelp I was part of the @WomensRightsNet secret shoppers and visited a couple of stores with my OH. He easily gained access to the women's fitting rooms. He's 6'1", a former rugby player. He said the magic words 'I'm a woman'. 5/
Never a big fan of 'fast fashion' it was easy to strike @Primark H&M and @Topshop off my shopping list. 6/
Moving on from fashion: @Starbucks @StarbucksUK campaign with fishy charity teaching children they were born in the wrong body means we give them a swerve. This is a hardship as they now have motorway drivethru locations. But we are committed. 7/
I did like the odd party dress from @MonsoonUK hit a good balance between price and value. #PromDressGate means I now browse charity shops and vintage stores for party dresses. 8/
@MonsoonUK We used to enjoy a stroll to our local pub. Went in one evening and there was a TIM waitress. Elaborate hair, make up and fake nails. My OH (quietly) 'is that a man?' Me 'how did you know' OH 'no hips and flat ass'. It's an independent. Won't name them. But won't go back. 9/
No @ProcterGamble product of any description. Among other factors: the 'bad dad ads' and the removal of the female symbol from their period products. Which BTW is no longer available on Apple emojis. 10/ Image
Boycotting @ProcterGamble took some work, had to carry the list of their consumer products around with me for a year or so until it was second nature to avoid their products.
Also a challenge - boycotting @Unilever brands. They are the worlds largest ice cream manufacturer including the notoriously woke 'Ben & Jerrys' so its been good for us. But it was @Dove cheerleading for 'Laurel' Hubbard, the weightlifter who stole an Olympic place 12/
from a woman of colour and then 'threw' their lifts so didn't actually compete. Best part of that was the interview that gave us the famous #nothankyou from the bronze medalist. Also, had to keep a list of their brands to be confident. No more @Unilever for us. 13/
Being careful not 'misgender' so as to avoid a ban.
By the way - never say gender when you mean sex.
Many sporting publications such as Sports Illustrated @isqiisi nailed their colours to the gender ideology mast with their fawning coverage of Thomas the swimmer. 14/
Any programme, publication or website that gaslights women is banned in our household. We became so disgusted by @BBCNews that we gave up our TV license and that was a great decision. We only stream and are more discerning consumers of sports, news and entertainment 15/
My OH was very relieved when @EnglandRugby came out with a sensible sex class policy (women for women only). He thought it might have to go on the banned list Narrow miss there. We stopped watching football (round ball) because of the hypocrisy of taking the knee
but not a peep about the World Cup in Qatar. They wear their rainbow laces for matches but are prepared to play in country that makes homosexuality illegal. @EnglandFootball You can't separate the national side from the leagues. So no more footie in our house. 16/
@Disney was a big part of my childhood and used to be about wholesome family entertainment. They've been busy mocking and destroying dads and male role models in all their movies (including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar). No more Disney princesses. 17/
I love shoes and am conflicted about boycotting any shoe brand. But @drmartens earns a spot on the boycott list for the ludicrous 'non-binary' influencer advertisement. 18/
@drmartens A bit of a segue here but I'm a big fan of @jk_rowling especially the Strike novels. So when Emma, Rupert and Daniel all turned on her; they all went on the boycott list. Won't see any film they're in, won't buy any product or brand they endorse. Which isn't a hardship 19/
Another British high street brand that decided to troll @jk_rowling for her support of women's rights was the Body Shop. And @LushLtd gave out binders to children. No more bath bombs or indeed any products from them. 20/
My OH is a keen DIYer. He shed a tear when @Wickes nailed their colours to the Trans Pride mast. But needs must and he shops more in Tool Station and Screwfix.
There's always another provider. 21/
@Tampax now uses two persons who can never menstruate to advertise their products. I did mention @ProcterGamble above but this is top level trolling and women hate. Deserves a special mention. 22/
Advertising is used to differentiate products and services that have identical utility. It seems to be helping us decide what not to buy. @VirginAtlantic after decades of objectifying women employees with sexualised uniforms and advertising 23/
Has decided that 'anyone' can wear any uniform at work. And there are pronoun badges, apparently voluntary for customers. So, #nothankyou will fly another carrier. Likewise @HalifaxBank Just want banking services. Love challenger banks BTW. 24/
Slightly running out of energy here (not women hating brands) so another tangent. My mother was a genuine bra burning 2nd wave feminist. Also believed in free speech. She caught sister & me with @Cosmopolitan magazine, we were 12 &13. She burnt it. 25/
She said 'magazines like that hate women and will teach you to hate yourself and your body'. It's difficult to say this at 63 but the woman was right. About everything. Any woman's magazine that celebrates or platforms a TIM goes on the 'do not buy' list. More or less all. 26/
That's about it for today because I'm off to make dinner for the OH. I may come back to this thread. Feel free to add any brands, shops, services that I've overlooked in replies.
Picking up some things that popped up in the replies; my beloved mother boycotted Nestle for the baby milk scandal since the 70s and that has carried on into adulthood. Its so ingrained in me that I don't notice it. 28/
I've stopped using @PayPal for any transactions (cutting off the @freespeechtv et al, yet allowing nonces to remain) and I'm trying to cancel my account. Feels like I'm caught in the coils of a boa constrictor but eventually I will extricate myself. 29/
I've tried to boycott @waitrose (as well as @Tesco, @sainsburys ) but eventually one runs out of supermarkets so I content myself with buying the minimum there and patronising our local butcher, fish monger and the milkman. So less but we are all imperfect beings 30/
Most surprising about the rise of trans ideology is how big companies have embraced women hate. So many seem happy to demonstrate their contempt for customers. Seen at the @FiLiA_charity conference in Wales; @Joulesclothing hating on their core demographic Oct 2022. Image
Also near the @FiLiA_charity conference from @AllSaintsOffic Is it like a magic spell so that the men's rights activists leave them alone? This is younger target audience but still, neutrality must be a sounder commercial choice in the long run. #womanhate Image
I aspired to own a @Coach handbag when I was a young woman starting out in my profession. Quality leather goods. This is one of their models. On the boycott list they go. Tweet 34/
I mention @Tampax upthread. But this deserves a repeat. The most disgusting tweet I have read from any brand. Tweet 35/ Image
Another once respected publication for women decides they want to advocate for the mutilation and sterilisation of troubled youth, especially girls. Tweet 36/? of this 🧵 Image
Anything that she promotes, I boycott. The entire brand. The lack of gratitude directed at the woman who's character gave her everything and her hatred of women are sufficient. And Prada shoes never fit me properly.
There’s a bookstore that wants to censor @jk_rowling, best selling author, philanthropist and woman’s rights campaigner. I guess @BookshopGhost isn’t that interested in customers. My numbering is not great but this roughly tweet 37/ Image
I shopped in @Abercrombie for my kids, but was turned off by the salesforce; decorative rather than functional and the tiny sizes. In an enormous pendulum swing, they're hectoring and gaslighting their potential customers about 'pride' and reclaiming 'queer'
38/? 🧵 Image
In an astonishing act of self harm @Hersheys mounted an ad & social media campaign in Canada for #IWD featuring a man. The chocolate is terrible but it's going on the boycott list just the same.
This tweet is making me very sad. I have @KitchenAid_UK stand mixer that's been with me longer than my husband, a big food processor and a mini-food processor.
How can you troll and betray your target demographic like this? When did woman hate become 'cool'? Image
Another day, another woman celeb forcing AGPs on us. I'll never watch another movie she's in. She's enabling her son to invade women's spaces. Movies have become MORE sexist during her career. And she can't see the men's rights movement.

@bindelj @rachelh1711 As an American, a feminist and the daughter of a feminist I'm going to express a contrarian view. You are confusing desirable outcome with process. Roe vs Wade said only that the states could not ban abortion and that they had to consider the health of the mother and the unborn
@bindelj @rachelh1711 when making laws about abortion. Even my mother, a bra burning 2nd wave feminist said 'shaky precedent, good outcome'. In 50 years American women have accepted the failure of passage of the Equal Rights Amendment,,not achieved decent maternity pay or protected the rights of 2/
@bindelj @rachelh1711 pregnant women to employment and job security, allowed gender ideology to infect all aspects of civil society, have watched Title IX go from sex based to gender based. They have not organised to achieve a legislative solution to women's rights. 3/

@KonstantinKisin Even good men don't 'feel' this issue the way that women do. I pass silently over those handmaidens who can hold luxury beliefs. My OH of 35 years was critical of the trans movement and saw it's danger before I did. But here's a story about him. BTW he's a good man. 1/
@KonstantinKisin I acquired a shiny bright red raincoat about 10 years ago. It immediately attracted attention and 'remarks' from men (strangers to me). The attention included men touching me - my arm or my shoulder without invitation - and the 'oooh ahh love' cat calling and whistles 2/
@KonstantinKisin ...I was stunned by this because well I was 50 and this type of attention had been ebbing away for years. So, I stopped wearing the raincoat except when I was out with my husband. BTW - a retired Australian rugby player. A big man. We go out in London one night 3/
