A few days ago, I posted a list of items that newly mobilised Russian troops are being told they need to buy for themselves (including "optional" bulletproof vests and helmets). I commented: "The sellers are going to be gouging the buyers for every ruble they can get." Well:
1/ Why do Russian private military companies like the notorious Wagner Group seem to be better organised than the regular military? An interesting commentary on Telegram suggests that they have leaner logistics and less bureaucracy. Translation below. ⬇️
2/ A new text from Rinat.
An eyewitness sketch with reflections and no conclusions.
Do you know what the secret of success of private military companiess compared with regular units is?
3/ It lies in the fact that the decision of when and where to deliver the military supplies is made by one man with experience from two wars. And in doing so he makes two calls: one to the place where it is going to be taken, and the second to the place from where it is coming.
@RALee85 Translation: On the reasons for the retreat at Kherson. Almost all of the units I know were in contact, the losses were small. The men fought like lions, but this time luck in battle was not with them. /1
1. Lack of rotation. Units of the 126th Brigade have been fighting since March. Soldiers went on leave for 5 days at best. Seven months on the front line without rotation. /2
@RALee85 Constant battles, wounds, experienced and fired men [refuseniks] were knocked out of the line for seven months in a row. At the end of August the same men knocked out the 128th Transcarpathian brigade of the AFU so that mourning was declared there. /3
1/ It's a dog-eat-dog world in the Russian army: the Telegram channel Baza reports that the newly mobilised troops have been fighting off attempts by existing contract soldiers to rob them. Translation follows. ⬇️
2/ In a military unit near Moscow, contract servicemen wanted to take away some of the mobilised men's equipment and telephones. This did not work: the newcomers simply beat up the "oldtimers".
3/ The conflict between military men took place in a military unit in Alabino [possibly the Military Training Ground located there] where men subjected to mobilization are taken. The newcomers were not welcomed there with bread and salt.
1/ Newly mobilised Russian troops need possibly thousands of dollars to buy everything from socks to bulletproof vests. But not to worry – Russia's microcredit industry can help!
"Called up? Need to equip? Not given anything? Not enough money for a first aid kit?"
2/ "Getting a military loan in 1 hour! Decision within 29 minutes! 98% probability of approval!"
Nothing could go wrong for needy soldiers seeking money from Russia's predatory, gangsterised microcredit industry, right? srbpodcast.org/2016/04/14/rus…
1/ Things are evidently getting bad for the Russians on the right (west) bank of the Dnipro in occupied Kherson oblast, if the current spate of panicked commentary on Russian Telegram channels is anything to go by. A round-up of translations follows (h/t @RALee85). ⬇️
By the evening of 2 October, the situation in the Nikopol direction had deteriorated. The enemy was advancing south towards Berislav via Zolotaya Balka. The situation could become critical in the near future. t.me/boris_rozhin/6…
3/ From 'Unofficial Bezsonov "Z"':
The Ukrainians are advancing in the Kherson direction. I am sure that in the next few days there will be 1-2 more sections of the front where the Ukranians will try to advance.
1/ Russian Telegram channel epoddubny has put forward a novel explanation of Ukrainian success for its readers: Ukraine isn't really using NATO tactics, it's just using old Soviet tactics with Western equipment! (Not a very convincing theory.) Translation follows. ⬇️
2/ The actions of the enemy in Kharkiv Region, near Liman and now in the south show that the AFU General Staff has abandoned frontal assaults in populated areas.
3/ First of all, enemy units attack communications, act in outreach, make breakthroughs, disrupt logistics, try to isolate the AP area and only after that attack a populated area.
