#WISEN: Barnes campaign goes on attack against Ron Johnson on abortion in new ad — the first time the campaign has aired abortion-themed ad in general election.
Was surprised that Barnes hadn’t used the abortion attack until this point against Johnson — per a campaign source, only one abortion ad overall has been aired against Johnson until now.
One possibility why: Wisconsin, despite its battleground status, is more rural and somewhat more culturally-conservative than many of the other big Senate battlegrounds.
but, as @allymutnick noted today, Dems are now going all-in on abortion -- even in GOP-leaning areas that aren't obvious pro-choice strongholds:

It's a reminder that the abortion issue, while potent for Dems, may not play the same way in every swing state/district.

“He said almost nothing about what he’d do if elected. There was no talk about inflation, crime, the January 6 committee, Ukraine.

Instead, he made fun of his opponent, Dr. Oz” commonsense.news/p/what-john-fe…
“He said it was wonderful to be here. He riffed on the stroke. He had a Borscht Belt-World Wrestling Federation kind of rhythm.”

Fetterman: “Did you ever know what crudité was before Dr. Oz?”
“It was his new post-stroke stump speech. It worked pretty well. Lots of rah-rah-rahing, lots of reassuring the crowd he was feeling better than ever, zero substance.”

axios.com/2022/10/02/dem…
"In WI, GOP Sen. Ron Johnson has pulled ahead of Democrat Mandela Barnes in the latest wave of public polls. In PA, recent polling suggests Democrat John Fetterman's double-digit advantage over Republican Mehmet Oz has shrunk to a statistical tie."

FIRST at @axios: "House Republicans pull ads from Ohio Trump district"

"House Republicans have withdrawn their advertising for Ohio Republican J.R. Majewski, a MAGA-aligned candidate who was at the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riots, Axios has learned."
axios.com/2022/09/22/hou…
"Why it matters: Kaptur's redrawn district — which backed Trump by three points in 20 — once looked like an easy pickup for House Republicans. The GOP is now at risk of squandering another race because R primary voters nominated an extreme candidate"

"Majewski, an Air Force veteran, has been under fire for sympathizing with the QAnon conspiracy theory movement and saying that every state that backed Trump in 2020 should secede from the United States."

axios.com/2022/09/08/oz-…
Dr. Oz: "The first debate has to be in September so we can allow voters to know who their candidates are right now. Pick one of the debates in the next two, three weeks. So we can get this ball rolling."

NYT: "Democrats Fret as Stacey Abrams Struggles in Georgia Governor’s Race"
nytimes.com/2022/09/07/us/…
"Democrats point to...her inability to appeal to a slice of moderate Republican voters who can decide the state’s elections."
The limits of base-first politics:

"Her struggles have some Georgia Democrats wondering if the Abrams model — seeking to expand the universe of voters to fit her politics — is truly better than trying to capture 50 percent of the voters who exist now."
