The future of DeFi: what lies ahead?

Developers have been quietly BUILDING:

brand new AMMs, DEXes that offer a CEX-like experience, novel credit primitives, new on-chain structured products, and more.

1️⃣ Liquidity Book

@traderjoe_xyz's new AMM.

Its unique features are:

-variable fees(swap fees increase during market volatility to compensate LPs for IL)

-new architecture- liquidity is separated in price bins to increase efficiency & insure lower slippage

2️⃣ Mars V2

A novel credit protocol coming to @cosmos.

Mars V2 introduces Rovers:

credit accounts where users can aggregate DeFi activities with 1 liquidation LTV.

Rovers enable cross-collateralization between C2C strategies, such as leveraged farming/trading, etc.

3️⃣Aevo

@ribbonfinance
has recently introduced Aevo:

A high performance order-book based options DEX that'll offer a CEX-like experience.

Its main advantages:

•100+ instruments, with many strikes &expiries
•Deep liquidity
•Instant onboarding from EVM-chains

4️⃣ Earthquake - 1st @y2kfinance product

Earthquake will allow users to hedge & speculate on the volatility associated with pegged assets.

Both selling and buying insurance for various pegged assets(including stablecoins) will be possible.

5️⃣ @CALC_Finance

A decentralized dollar-cost averaging protocol.

Besides simple recurring buys, Calc will also provide advanced algorithms meant to outperform standard DCA strategies.

The protocol will be deployed on Kujira L1.

6️⃣ @vertex_protocol

An ambitious project coming to Arbitrum.

While CEXes like @binance offer everything in one app, there isn't an all-in-one DEX.

Vertex's goal is to integrate spot trading, money markets, and derivatives in one single protocol.

7️⃣ PvP AMM

An enhanced version of @GMX_IO perpetual DEX.

PvP AMM will allow the trading of synthetic assets (that track the price of a token, commodity, etc.)

In addition, it will require only stablecoins as liquidity for traders rather than multiple tokens.

8️⃣ Chicken Bonds by @LiquityProtocol

A novel approach to capture protocol-owned liquidity(POL) in a sustainable way.

Chicken bonds are a new form of bonding that will allow Liquity to stabilize the peg of $LUSD by providing accrued POL to its Curve pairs.

9️⃣ @GammaSwapLabs

The first oracle-free volatility DEX.

Instead of betting that the market goes up or down, GammaSwap will allow you to trade volatility.

This will open new use cases such as hedging impermanent loss (which would be great for liquidity providers).

🔟@dYdX V4

A fully decentralized, off-chain, orderbook perpetual exchange.

The team of the project took the decision to develop it as a standalone blockchain using Cosmos SDK.

It will be governed by DYDX holders who will get a % of the platform's trading fees.

But the differences in their visions raise a few questions:

•Which one is the best?
•What trade-offs did they make?
•Which one can reach mass adoption?

The 2021 bull market brought blockchain technology to the forefront—but with it came congestion, scalability issues, and high fees.

But the worst part is that their users aren't the only ones affected by the blockchains' technical limitations.
Sharing a chain with other protocols also means sharing its transaction bandwidth.

Because of this, developers must develop applications that don't require high transaction throughput.

CLOB order books are one of these applications that are dealing with scalability issues.

The reasons for that are clear:
High emissions + no utility

Deep liquidity is crucial for DEXes and this requires high token emissions.

The worst part is that these protocols aren't the only ones in constant need of liquidity.
/3 All projects have to ensure deep liquidity for a pair with their token on at least one DEX.

Most of them choose to allocate important amounts of their tokens to liquidity providers to compensate them for IL.

But this comes at the expense of the current holders of that token.
