Day 6: DadXian

#Xiantober

Wei Wuxian startled awake with the screeching sound of the baby monitor on his nightstand, it was past 3 a.m. but he got up with no hesitation as he listened to the sound of his little radish's distressed cries.
He didn’t need a thermometer to tell him his baby's fever had risen. A-Yuan was burning up and the medicine he'd given him before sleep hadn't worked long enough. Worst of all, he couldn't give him another dose until six a.m., three hours ahead from now.

Fuck.
A-Yuan's face was contorted up in misery. Tears streamed down his flushed, chubby cheeks endlessly.

“Oh, baby...” he breathed, picking him up in his arms, his heart breaking when his tiny fists curled up against his chest,
little fingers fisting his t-shirt as his wet face buried against his neck.

"Shhh... it's okay baobei, baba is going to make the pain go away, it's okay, it's okay..."

He tried to soothe him by humming and rocking his little body.
He sat in the recliner at the corner and kissed the top of his head while lulling him to sleep.

As soon as he calmed down, Wei Wuxian changed A-Yuan's sweat damp clothes and prepared his baby travel bag as fast as he could before taking his little bean to the hospital.
In the silence, he fastened a pair of jeans and put on a random jacket before hastily going out through the door.

—————
He was so young when he fell in love.

Even now, after years and years he still remember the feeling. The warmth he felt when their hands clasped together for the first time, the taste of his mouth the first time he'd kissed him, the first time they made love.
It's kinda bittersweet, how each sensation still burned against his skin, how they still will, even if a thousand years pass by.

He loved the feeling he gave him — of love… of friendship… of belonging.

He hated the feeling he left him — of emptiness, of loneliness...
of abandonment...

It reminded him of the time when they had been best friends and so in love. They laughed, Wei Wuxian more than him. They had fun, they held hands, they kissed, they made love, everywhere, all the time... everyone wanted what they had.
They had planned to build a future together — work at their careers, get married, start a family, and be happy.

All of that changed, however, when Lan Qiren forced Lan Wangji to leave the country to finish his residency overseas.
They had been happy for blissful years, since they were fifteen… until they weren’t anymore.

Life had to split them apart.
Wei Wuxian hadn't wanted Lan Wangji to feel trapped in an all consuming long distance relationship, stressed out, unfocused, having to divide his time and attention between the career of his dreams and... well,

him... Wei Wuxian.

He wasn't worthy.
Wei Wuxian loved him all too much to keep him caged. That's why he eventually let him go.

Lan Wangji would forget him with time, like everyone else did. He would thrive and be a great doctor out there, and Wei Wuxian would be proud of him, happy for him, no matter what.
And forget him he did.

They lost contact after two or so months after his departure, around the same time Wei Wuxian found out he was pregnant.
He had to drop out from college in his last year, he had to work in three different places to have enough money to provide for the little angel growing up inside of him.

He did his best despite the struggles, and that turned out to be just enough.
Wen Qing, Wen Ning and even granny Wen, they all helped him so much, making rounds and sacrificing their hours to watch over A-Yuan while Wei Wuxian finally finished his year and graduated.
He had a stable job now, it payed well, and the best thing is that they had a daycare of their own in the site, where Wei Wuxian could check on A-Yuan anytime he wanted.

Everything was going as great as it could be, until A-Yuan woke up with a bug the week before.

—————
Being back at the hospital he used to have lunch with Lan Wangji all the time felt so strange. It didn't help to see so many familiar faces around too. It brought him a weird sense of uneasiness, like a pill too hard to swallow.

He sighed, rushing to the front desk.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The nurse asked, looking a little startled by his sudden arrival.

"Please, it's my baby." He held A-Yuan tightly, rubbing one hand down his tiny back.
"He got the flu from the daycare a few days ago, my sister is a doctor and I've been giving him all the medication she's prescribed but it hasn’t gotten any better, she's out of town and he's getting worse, I don't know what to do, please, I don't know what to do."
"I'll do the best I can, okay? Can I see his documents? I need them before admitting him."

"Sure, just... Give me a minute." He shuffled through the contents in the bag, struggling to balance both the heavy bag and A-Yuan in his arms.
When he finally found his wallet, in his hush to grabb it, the bag slipped from his shoulder, spilling everything on the floor, including A-Yuan's documents.

"Fuck." His hands trembled as he gathered the pack of baby wipes and baby powder from the floor.
“Please, let me help you.” Wei Wuxian felt a strong hand squeezing his shoulder lightly.

He knew that voice, how could he not? When that same voice had whispered tales of love against his ears, that same voice had promised him forever and ever.

Had promised eternity...
He heaved a deep, quivering breath, nodding with owlish eyes, trying not to look at him in the eye. “T-thank you…”
He heard when Lan Wangji sucked in his breath, he heard when he gasped, so unusual of him, how his voice trembled when he spoke a name Wei Wuxian never thought he would ever hear again, not coming from those lips.

"Wei Ying?"
There was a long pause. The silence was deafening in Wei Wuxian's ears. The tears were blurring his vision now.

He felt as if the world had stopped around him, as if the ground was crumbling down under his feet. He couldn't, not now, he — he needed,

His baby needed him. Now.
"Lan Zhan, I'm sorry but I don't have time for this now." He took the documents from his hands and shoved them on the nurse's desk. "Please, I need him to see a doctor, now." He begged her and she gave him a formulary to sign.
"There's no need." Lan Wangji said, his voice devoid of emotion, as if he was talking to a stranger.

Something broke inside Wei Ying, but he ignored, he had more important matters at his hands in the moment.
"Wei Ying, come with me, please."

"Lan Zhan, I don't have time to talk right now." He insisted, his voice a notch too high, even for his own ears.

"Wei Ying, I'm a pediatrician, I will take care of him, please follow me."

"What?"
Lan Wangji took the bag from him and placed his free hand on the small of his back. He led them to the pediatric ward where they got A-Yuan settled into a bed.

Wei Wuxian stayed silent the whole time.
Lan Wangji ran a few blood tests and a full CT scan of A-Yuan's lungs. At the end of the night, he determined that A-Yuan had contracted a virus, not a flu, it evolved to pneumonia very quickly, but it was treatable.
He prescribed antibiotics which should be administered three times a day mixed into a small glass of juice or milk.

Wei Wuxian closed his eyes and pressed his face against his closed hands, sighing in relief.
He leaned over A-Yuan's sleeping form and kissed him softly. "I told you you were going to be okay, didn't I, baobei?" He smiled. "My sweet, sweet boy..."
Tears dripped from his chin onto the boy's hair, he never felt so scared in his entire life.

The unbearable fear of losing what he loved the most in the world was terrifying. He didn't know what he was going to do if something ever happened to his baby.
"Wei Ying?"

Wei Wuxian lifted his head at Lan Wangji's voice.

"Lan Zhan." He took a breath and relaxed a bit.

"Can we talk?" Lan Wangji asked.

Wei Wuxian sighed, defeated. "About?"
"I saw A-Yuan's birth certificate."

"Of course you did." Wei Wuxian chuckled, humorlessly.

"His age, he... Is he..."

"He's yours, Lan Zhan, of course he's yours." Wei Wuxian whispered, his throat tightening up even more.
Lan Wangji's breath trembled. He took Wei Wuxian's hands in both of his, his gaze watching his own thumb move over his knuckles.

"I didn't know you were back." Wei Wuxian broke the silence weighting down on both of them.
"I've been back for only a month, I — I tried to find you but... You've changed your number, you moved out from our old apartment... I... I didn't know what to do." His voice cracked for the first time and Wei Wuxian could feel it, how everything in him trembled against him.
He listened attentively, swallowing thickly and when he finally looked up, he saw tears in Lan Wangji's eyes. "If I knew, if only I knew, I would have never..."
"Shh... It's okay, you had no way to know." Wei Wuxian bumped Lan Wangji's shoulder with his and smiled a watery smile at him. "The past doesn't matter, you're here for him now, are you not?"
"And for you, if you allow me back in your life."

Wei Wuxian shook his head and laughed. "You don't change, huh, Lan Zhan?"
"Not when it comes to you." Lan Wangji pressed his forehead against his, both his palms cradling his face, thumbs caressing over Wei Wuxian's wet cheekbones. He whispered slowly and softly against his lips. "I never stopped loving you."
Wei Wuxian closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When his eyes opened again he saw that Lan Wangji was still staring at him with the same loving gaze as years before, as if nothing had ever changed, as if the last 4 years had never existed.
He smiled, bright and sunny before kissing the corner of Lan Wangji's lips. "I never stopped loving you, too."

Needless to say, A-Yuan found himself a new diedie to call his own.
The end 🥹

I wanted to write this for such a long time, I feel like I didn't do this justice, maybe in the future I'll come back to this.

Hope y'all liked this little sad journey with me ❤️

We're always writing about Lan Wangji's everlasting love and devotion, but what if…

What if he had killed Wei Wuxian instead?

This will be a short Brother bear AU. I'm writing as it goes, please bear with me, I'll have to pause it a few times.

tw: MCD, angst, hopeful ending.
Lan Wangji resented foxes, he hated them, not because they're spiteful creatures or something, but because they're natural hunters and they kill for fun, especially this one fox, who had the habit of breaking into his rabbit's hutch in the dead of night.
His rabbits — His mother's rabbits, they were more than pets, they were the last thing his mother had left him after her death, the last memory he had of her.

And having a fox, of all things, killing them every now and then, well, that wouldn't do.

Wei Wuxian's body was something he had always taken great pride in.

He'd always been skinny, although delicate, his limbs were slender and his muscles well defined.

He had that hourglass type of body that any alpha out there would die and kill, only to have a little taste of.
But bodies, however, no matter how perfect-like they are, will inevitably look different after giving birth.

Swollen Feet, hormone fluctuations, enlarged breasts, the pronounced stomach pooch, thicker thighs and stretch marks.

Everything came with the package of being a mom.

The clicking of his keys clattering against the paper was the only sound echoing in the room as Wei Wuxian typed on his old, well used typewriter.

He took a sip from his Merlot as he wrote another heartfelt line on the yellowed paper, stopping only to return the carriage to its correct place with a quiet 'ding' before continuing to write.

He played with the cup of wine in his hand as his eyes strayed to the red envelope on his desk.

He had received a strange invitation to a masquerade that afternoon, but not only that, the invitation stated that his presence was required at any cost.

What was supposed to be odd.

Wei Wuxian entered the humble establishment in soft, quiet steps, neither too slowly nor too quickly.

He looked around calmly as he waited for his husband's arrival.

cw: 🔞, shameless husbands, no juniors were hurt in the making of this fic.
After their little playtime in the woods and a traumatized little apple, they walked nonstop all night, unable to properly fly on Bichen because of the donkey following them a few steps behind.
In the afternoon, they mapped out the route for their next path and after some walk, they stopped in front of an inn in Hangzhou, one of the small territories around Caiyi Town.

Wei Wuxian watched outside as the villagers walked in and out of the tavern across the street,

His long hair was a tangled, wet mess and his eyes were red and puffy and just as wet as the rest of himself. His once immaculate and carefully done eyeliner was now marred by tears, and his usually confident smirk was completely gone.
