The main concern throughout this week has been Mitrovic's fitness. However, according to news coming out of Fulham's pre match press conference, the maximum that Mitrovic could be out for is a week. Marco Silva did say that Mitrovic...
... will be back for Fulham's fixture in Gameweek 11 against Bournemouth which is enough for me to keep him. Since the game is on Sunday and not on Saturday, there is even a decent chance that he actually starts this week, so play him if you own.
Mitrovic's underlying numbers are strong since the beginning of the season, despite having faced Liverpool, Arsenal, Brighton and Spurs in that run. – I expect him to offer value in the times to come.
Fulham now have a much more favourable run till the end of the World Cup.
Q) What to do with Isak – who are the best replacements?
Wilson: Wilson would be my number one pick. Newcastle have a potent attack and the three home fixtures against Brentford, Everton and Villa in the next five weeks stand out to me. On penalties too.
Solanke: I still like Solanke as an option, especially if you are buying him to fund a transfer & upgrade elsewhere. He effectively needs to do very little to justify his price because of the upgrades in the squad that he allows. Each three of the sides that he is scheduled...
... to face in the upcoming fixtures are in the bottom half for big chances conceded this season. Very much like Pukki last season, I expect Solanke to be a budget striker who will represent value despite playing for one of the lesser sides.
Toney: I expect him to continue to tick along but the fixtures are tough and I don’t see haul potential.
Martial: A bit of a risk for minutes especially as he has just returned from injury but I do think he’s the best number nine that Man United have. Will become an option...
... sooner rather than later. I don’t mind punting now even.
Watkins: Villa are ranked 19th for xG this season. If you’re backing a team with poor underlying statistics, surely it makes more sense to spare the extra one and a half million and go for Solanke instead?
Daka: Will always be at risk with Vardy around. Could get subbed early or dropped after one poor performance.
Welbeck: The fixtures are a bit tough even though I rate the Brighton attack very highly at the moment. De Zerbi is a very attacking manager.
Q) Who are the best £8m midfielders – rank in order of preference?
1) Maddison - I've never really considered Maddison as a good FPL pick over the years but his numbers have been sensational in 2022.
His underlying data has improved by quite a stretch this...
... calendar year - all that was needed was a return to form. Three goals and an assist over the previous two fixtures means that your hand is almost forced considering his form with the fixtures that lie ahead...
... Leicester are away to Bournemouth, home to Crystal Palace and home to Leeds in their next three fixtures - I'd struggle to hand-pick a better run than that.
2) Zaha - Crystal Palace have a great run of fixtures, Zaha is completely nailed, on penalties and is one of the standout midfielders when it comes to the underlying numbers this season despite the tough fixture schedule that Palace have had in the opening weeks.
3) Bowen - Bowen is purely a fixture-play pick.
His form and underlying numbers have picked up over the past two fixtures, which coincides with a favorable swing for West Ham in the fixture schedule.
Crucially, he's very likely to be on penalties after he dispatched one recently in the Europa Conference League.
4) Foden – Over the long run, he’s the best pick of them all. Foden is only behind Haaland for big chances, penalty area touches and shots in the box this season but crucially has started each of Man City's nine fixtures this season which is fairly significant for a Man City...
... attacker.
Having a nailed Man City attacker who is relatively secure to start every week is big. Foden is only two points behind De Bruyne this season despite the fact that he's almost £4.0m cheaper.
However, it’s the upcoming blank in GW12 which sees him rank fourth.
Q) Would you sell Bowen for one of Zaha or Maddison?
I think that Bowen is a perfectly good option to own at the moment – I wouldn’t sell him if I owned this week. The move for Zaha/Maddison feels a bit sideways.
Q) Would you sell Diaz for one of Zaha or Maddison?
It’s not a pressing transfer to make but I would do it if I did not have any other moves to make.
Q) Salah to De Bruyne – yes or no?
If you were one of those (like myself!) who sold De Bruyne for Salah last week, I wouldn’t reverse the move. You’ve made your bed – now lie in it. Salah is a potential captaincy option in GW12 and there is a good chance that you might want...
... Foden from GW13 onwards over De Bruyne anyway.
Q) Is Trent a sell?
Liverpool have had an indifferent start to the season, as a result of which Trent’s ownership isn't as high as we are usually used to seeing.
He is still second for expected assists (xA) among defenders this season though and saves you the hassle of...
... having to make additional transfers to remove and then buy him back in the future once Liverpool's fixtures improve from Gameweek 12. I would keep.
Q) What to do with Jesus and Martinelli?
I’d keep both of them this week at the very least. Arsenal are in great form and have good underlying numbers, especially at home. Liverpool meanwhile are ranked 14th for big chances conceded.
I’d expect Arsenal to score against Liverpool – and there is a great chance that either Martinelli or4 Jesus are involved.
Q) Sell Cancelo to triple up on the City attack?
I wouldn’t – especially after the news that Walker is injured. Historically, Cancelo tends to do better from an attacking point of view when he plays on the right as compared to the left.
