When it happened back in June, I decided that it would be best for me to stay off social media and all other media until Princeton and Cornell (my PhD institution) had time to look into the allegations.
That process took a bit longer than I'd hoped, but now it's finally done.
The Graduate School at Cornell held an inquiry back in August, which addressed the allegations about some lines in the preface to my dissertation and concluded there was no ill intent on my part there.
They issued me this letter which I'm allowed to share:
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty at Princeton followed our procedures, convening an ad hoc committee to investigate allegations about my books. Thankfully, that process has concluded too.
The report will stay confidential, but I've been allowed to share the following text:
I'm grateful for everyone at Princeton and Cornell who took time out of their already busy schedules to address these allegations in a thorough manner.
And I'm *incredibly* thankful for all the colleagues, co-workers, friends and even strangers who took the time to send me some very kind notes of support and solidarity as this all unfolded.
After all these months, I'm looking forward to moving on now.
I'll be back on Twitter in the coming days. (Yes, Sarge too.)

This is the RNC Finance Chair who was accused of sexual harassment by nine women, not to be confused with the RNC *Deputy* Finance Chair who went to prison for financial crimes, or the *other* RNC Deputy Finance Chair who pled guilty to illegal foreign lobbying.
We're about to see the 40th anniversary of a lot of major indie rock bands and albums, and the articles about aging Gen Xers are just going to write themselves.
"Forty years ago, R.E.M. hit the scene with 'Murmur,' but these days the only murmurs their fans care about are discussed in their cardiologist's office."
"Forty years ago, the Replacements released 'Hootenanny,' but phrases like 'Treatment Bound' and 'Take Me Down to the Hospital' have a different meaning for their fans today."
Despite bitter disagreements in the past, historians now agree that indie rock reached “peak strum” with the 1993 release of Unrest’s “Make Out Club”
It’s weird to see Mark Robinson look into the camera in that video, because when he played it live he spent the whole song looking at the ceiling, presumably to shield his eyes from the sparks flying off the guitar.
Historians of the UK are going to complain this is an unfair erasure of The Wedding Present, but I’m not getting into the historiographical weeds again.
The Grants.gov website won't let me use my email address because there's an account already linked to it, and when I try to sign in on that email address, it tells me there's no account linked to it.
And then I use the random password suggested by the site, and the site then tells me that's not an acceptable password.
(chef's kiss)
It gets better! I finally got a password to work, and then six minutes later -- without having done anything at all at my end -- it didn't recognize the password.
So, fine, I go to reset the password, and now it doesn't recognize the email address.
Here's the independent, straight-shooting, Constitution-loving @SenMikeLee, asking the Trump White House to put some words in his mouth so he could help them steal the election.
I know everyone's aghast at Mandel having the gall to lecture MLK's own daughter @BerniceKing about MLK's legacy, but I want to focus on the second part here, about how MLK was "wrongly denied a gun permit by anti-gun racists."
