Day 7: MerXian

Prompt 1 - for Sasa ❤️ @Cosmicmilktea

Lights were off, doors were locked, no cars were in the parking lot.

Lan Wangji triple-checked the area and after making sure that everything was secured and no one was around, he closed up the locker room doors and headed to the pool.

He sighed as he slowly made his way to the small corridor that linked the changing rooms to the indoor pool, turning off all the lights as he did so.

Everything seemed in order, silent, dark and empty, as it should be at this time at night.

He calmly checked the windows and the pool pump and as soon as he finished, he fished his keys, preparing to close everything and leave for the day.

However, the moment he put the key in the lock, he heard a loud splash.

He stiffened like a statue, unmoving as a rain of little drops fell down on his chest and shoulders.

In the darkness, it was difficult to make out what exactly was happening, the only source of light being the soft blue led coming from the olympic-sized swimming pool.

"Who's there?" He narrowed his eyes, his deep voice rumbling from the door. "Come out, now."

"Ah, hahaha…" The person laughed nervously. "Hi, Lan Zhan, how you're doing?"

"Wei Ying?"

Wei Wuxian reached the border of the pool in two elegant strokes.

He clenched his fingertips over the edge, hoisting himself up until only his eyes and nose peeked out. He watched Lan Wangji unblinkingly, his soft grey eyes wide and big, eyelashes fluttering little droplets of water on his cheeks.

Lan Wangji would be a hypocrite if I said he wasn't beautiful.

Anyway.

"You shouldn't be here. Get out of there." Lan Wangji spat angrily, gesturing to the pool with both hands. "Now."

"Hahaha you see, Lan Zhan, I can't get out, I'm in the middle of a… situation..."

"What situation?" Lan Wangji's voice rang around the pool, making Wei Wuxian recoil a little.

He stepped closer, intending to remove Wei Wuxian from the there for better or for worse.

"No no no! Don't come near!!" Wei Wuxian yelled, almost desperately.

"Stay there, Lan Zhan, I'm serious."

Wei Wuxian's voice put a halt to his steps. "Give me a good reason."

"Hmmm, I'm — huh, I — I'm naked!! That's it! I'm very, very naked, everything's out, you wouldn't like to see that, would you?"

He very much would, thank you.

Lan Wangji swallowed deeply, balling his fists before taking a deep breath, "Absurd! Shameless! Preposterous!"

"Hahaha, you know me, Lan Zhan, I am shameless."

"Put on your clothes and go back to your dorm room, it's late."

"Aish Lan Zhan, my clothes are not here, hm, can't you just go Lan Zhan? I'll be back in a few minutes, you have my word."

"I can't leave you here by yourself."

Of course not, being the captain of the swimming team and the university president, Lan Wangji was responsible for all students' security and well being, especially around the pool. He couldn't let Wei Wuxian wandering around by himself at night, especially underwater.

He took off his jacket and stepped closer to the border, looking away like the perfect gentleman he was before holding the piece of clothing open for Wei Wuxian to wear. "Come, wear this, I'll walk you back to your room." He said gently.

"Lan Zhan, come closer." Wei Wuxian breathed, feeling the swell of oxygen in his chest replace his anxiety. "Can you keep a secret?"

"Of course." Lan Wangji crouched in front of him next to the edge of the pool, jacket clasped in his hands, but still not looking

in Wei Wuxian's direction.

"Lan Zhan, look at me."

"No."

"Okay then." Was all Wei Wuxian said before submerging his face underwater. The ripples engulfed him, cradling his bodyweight and pulling him in, deep.

Lan Wangji grimaced, eyes locked on the patterns adorning the floor.

One minute passed, then two, then three. Wei Wuxian should have gotten out of the water by now.

He must be pranking him again, right?

"Wei Ying?" Lan Wangji called, but there was no response.

He called again.

Nothing.

Lan Wangji felt his heart sink. When two more minutes ticked by and he didn’t resurface, he assumed the worst. For some reason, the idea made his heart throb.

He turned his head slowly, looking at the standing water in front of him, not a single ripple in it's surface, no sign of Wei Ying.

It took him longer than he would like to admit for his brain to regain enough function to call the rest of his body into action.

"Wei Ying!" He lurched forward, plunging deep into the water in desperate search.

His vision tunnels the deeper he goes. His heart was heavy, his arms were shaking with fatigue as he swung his arms in vigorous arcs.

He looked around, swimming non stop, treading water with desperation, until he felt something brushing against his neck. He stopped, feeling his breath catch in his throat and his heart skip a beat when Wei Ying's lithe body came into view,

making him do a double take, then a third.

At first, he thought he was hallucinating, but it was all too real, it was right in front of him, at reaching distance.

He could touch him if he wanted, he could wrap his arms around him if he wanted, if only he had the courage...

Wei Wuxian swimmed playfully around his body, gracefully, effortlessly, beautifully…

Bubbles surrounded him like a cloud, his long hair floated around him like a veil, smooth and black like the night sky.

His tail? Yes, tail — was so… gorgeous, elegant, perfect… Bright, vibrant red, the shade of fire. The fin was black, and it sparkled, as if it was made of glitter, or stars. Scales were scattered so delicately across his ribs. It was breathtaking.

Lan Wangji floated back to the surface and Wei Wuxian followed behing. When his head broke the top, Wei Wuxian's soft laughter filled his ears.

"Hey," Wei Wuxian whispered, inching closer, trying for the most soothing voice he could manage.

"Hey." Lan Wangji repeated. He hesitated for a second before swimming closer himself, until they were so close their breaths mingled. "Mermaid..."

"I mean, I'm still a man, so 'merman' fits me better." He laughed softly.

His pink tongue darted out to lick around his lips and Lan Wangji's eyes tracked down the movement.

"Do you understand now, Lan Zhan?" He wrapped his hands around Lan Wangji's neck and Lan Wangji let him, moving his hand to circle his waist, holding him a little bit closer.

"I do." He muttered, his breath fanning against Wei Wuxian's lips, threading his fingers through his soft, damp locks. "But I still can't let you stay here, it's not allowed."

Wei Wuxian's shoulders slumped a bit. "It's not like I have a choice, Lan Zhan."

"How so?"

"If i stay too long away from water… I…"

"Does it hurt?"

"So much… And I can't just turn into a fish under the shower of the community bathroom" His voice shook. "The longer I stay away, the harder it is for me to turn, with time, I won't be able to turn back anymore."

Lan Wangji bore his eyes into his, breathing in his smell, the faint smell of chlorine mixed with his soft, sweet cologne, "Then stay with me."

Wei Wuxian laughed heartily, earning an adorable glare from Lan Wangji.

"Aren't you being too straight forward, Lan Zhan?" He place his hand on Lan Wangji's cheek, running his thumb over his lower lip.

"My brother moved out recently, I have an empty room."

"Is that so?" Wei Wuxian chuckled, he couldn’t stop a soft smile from spreading across his face.

"Mnn, you can use my pool."

"I can?"

"You can do whatever you want."

"What if I wanted to kiss you." Wei Wuxian muttered, voice sweet, but also a little bit raspy, intoxicating.

"I would let you."

Wei Wuxian framed his face hesitantly, leaning over to lay light kisses on his cheeks, then his nose.

He brought his mouth close to his, running his thumb over it. “Can I?” He asked, and Lan Wangji simply nodded.

It started innocent. Wei Wuxian pecked the corner of his lips, slowly tracing Lan Wangji's upper lip with his tongue, but it didn't really help that Wei Wuxian's cute, mostly naked body was pressed against Lan Wangji's own so tightly.

It was calming in a way, Lan Wangji pressed his lips against his and Wei Wuxian moaned, wrapping his entire tail around Lan Wangji's leg.

“Feels good, Lan Zhan, you feel so good...” he murmured, touching their lips again, moving a bit too fast for his own good.

Lan Wangji dug his nails on Wei Wuxian’s hips and Wei Wuxian gasped, parting his lips to give him full access.

Lan Wangji cupped a hand on the back of his neck and pressed his lips hard to his.

Wei Wuxian's vision dimmed, a moan escaped through his lips as Lan Wangji's tongue sough for his, sliding inside his mouth, exploring, tasting, ravaging

Lan Wangji pressed their bodies closer, twirling their tongues together in a deep slow kiss that slipped from gentle to urgent

to desperate.

Wei Wuxian parted from him gasping for air, he felt dizzy, breathless, jelly-like as stared at Lan Wangji with wide eyes and an innocent-like look on his face, "That… that was my first kiss."

"First?" Lan Wangji's golden eyes darkened.

"Yes, gege, you stole my first kiss, are you proud of yourself?" Wei Wuxian pouted cutely, but his voice betrayed him, it was hoarse and full of desire.

"As far as I know, you gave it willingly."

Wei Wuxian laughed, placing his head over Lan Wangji's shoulder and nuzzling against his chest.

"Wei Ying?"

"Yes gege?"

"Let me take you home."

"Okay." He said, then locked his arms around him, snuggling closer and burying his face against his neck, sighing contently.

Lan Wangji carefully wrapped his jacket around his naked body and carried him back to his car.

Their eyes met through the rearview mirror and Lan Wangji gave him a tiny, secret little smile.

He really looked forward to learn more about this beautiful half human, half merman that stole his heart so thoroughly, a long time ago.
