Coming out as #bivalent
And now I am initiating the I Am Baby Protocol (retiring to bed with a bottle of Sprite) to maximize the chance that my body is done dealing with this in time for me to get groceries tomorrow.
You can help with the groceries if you want.

I wore my trans-est hair because the people at this pharmacy tend to get confused by my vaccine paperwork but I actually had the least hassle or confusion about my name ever.

Even more so than the possibility of swaying counts directly by literally being the people who count the ballots, the Republican plan counts on making direct democracy impossible and unworkable so they can argue for restricting the franchise, state leg appointment, etc.
"Destroy the functions of government and public services so they can say 'See, these things don't work. Now let's get serious and embrace oligarchy like sensible adults." is basically the universal Plan A for the Republican Party.
Remember all the "How long can it take to count votes?" conspiracy talk and how every time votes came in it was "analyzed" for "proof" of tampering?

Hand-counting votes will make cities take even longer and then come in as late, big blue-leaning batches.

LRTs: I keep thinking about how so many people in that "protect our Christian children to preserve our Christian culture" sphere have been tweeting lately about how children *belong to* their parents and not to the state or to schools or to "the alphabet people" (as in "LGBTQ+")
And we cannot understand what they mean by that or what the stakes they think they are contesting over without understanding that they literally mean that children are belongings, property. Things that can be owned and freely shaped and molded.
Under this rubric, a child *is* perfectly malleable in psyche and can be (and should be) shaped into a perfect copy of their parents in terms of values and beliefs.

Any "willfulness" (independent thought) comes from the devil or the outside world (which are the same thing).

Also, the people they hire are paying income taxes and payroll taxes, so the money they spend on payroll is still taxed.

It's an unadulterated good all the way down.
The overall practical goal of economic policy for a consumer-driven economy should be to make sure money is getting into the hands of the classes who will spend it. This generates the most revenue for the government *and* for the billionaires and corporations.
Higher wages or UBI or generous and widespread social safety nets all result in more money being spent that will inexorably accumulate in the hands of the entities that control the means of production.

After years of resisting the move from keyboard and mouse, I've been re-playing Control with a controller and while it's obviously an adjustment, I have to say my gripes about the gameplay are markedly improved.
The advantages of a controller over a keyboard in general are obvious, but as a very intuitive touch-typist who was playing PC games before a mouse became standard equipment, even the worst keyboard controls are very easy for me to pick up.
And I drifted away from console games before having more than one directional stick or two shoulder buttons was really a thing.

New spooky season flash fic on my Patreon, unlocked and free to read:
In A Hole In The Ground, a story not about hobbits.

patreon.com/posts/72928372
I added a bit of an author's note as a comment on the page, that I think I might have posted a less complete version of it somewhere before, on my Patreon or a flash fic site. This is the "author's preferred definitive edition", at least for now.
There's a tense shift from the opening line (whose tense is dictated by the source material) to the bulk of the piece, which only really worked with the present tense.

This was a choice and one I think works, losing the safe remove of the past tense for dangerous immediacy.

I really enjoy the Remix mode (world seed: "Don't Dig Up") in Terraria for giving me the feeling of playing Terraria again for the first time, but with the eleventy million percent increase in content we've had since I first placed it.
I love when a game update gives new content that is effectively a different mode of play, which is one of the things that has kept Vampire Survivors fresh for me even given what is on the surface a very limited, repetitive, and bounded game.
The simple conceit of the Remix mode (inverse Terraria: start in a hospitable underworld biome and carve a path upwards through increasingly hostile strata until you reach a hellish surface) would have been easy to do badly by just literally flipping the world on its head.
