The only topic I’ve ever refrained from writing on due to potential blowback is the Pitbull Lobby. There is a reason Rottie/GSD/Tibetan Mastiff owner groups hate pitbull owners—We all treat our dogs as the dangerous, aggression-inclined, breed realistic, serious f*cking dogs that

they are,& we know that we chose to take on additional RESPONSIBILITY when we CHOSE a dog who poses ADDITIONAL danger

You can raise a pack of different puppies exactly the same—the collie will naturally herd, the Chesapeake will naturally retrieve, & the munsterlander still hunt

Why? Because breeds. Have. Breed. Traits. It is their DNA & denying this is no less idiotic than denying genetics. Responsible owners know that, which is why you never hear Tibetan or Ovcharka owners say that our dogs can be trained to like strangers. No, theyre bred to kill them

Your 1st & most important responsibility as an owner is to 1) keep humans safe & 2) keep your dog safe. Trying to force an animal, who has no say in their DNA, to be something that they are not is a recipe for danger & is cruel to the dog. Why? Because you set your dog up to fail

Training is important, training is not everything. There is no amount of training in the world that will make a St. Bernard as good of a hunting dog as a pointer, no amount of training will make a hound act like a poodle, no amount of training will make a Tibetan like strangers.

Is it “dog racism” (a term white childless female pitbull owners seem to love) that myself & every Tibetan Mastiff owner I know says our dogs should never be homed with kids? No!—because we actually CARE about our breed, & all that would result in is dead Tibetans. And dead kids.

But then you have pitbull owners. And before I proceed—my anger doesn’t lie with the pitbull, who is only doing what in his DNA. My anger is with the Pitbull Lobby, who have lied & shamed you into believing that unstable murder machines are baby angels who can safely be with kids

The problem with pitbulls isnt what people think. Its not inherent aggression (which ironically would be preferable, at least you can read & manage that). They have 0 bite restraint & high prey drive, but that’s not even the core of it. The problem with Pitbulls is *instability*.

The post 1800s pitbull —even with no history of abuse/neglect/bad training— can act & be completely sweet for 5 yrs. & For absolutely no reason & without warning or trigger, turn on their family & maul without restraint. Instability is a hallmark, Pitbulls are ticking time bombs.

The consequences of that *instability* means a lack of preparedness on the part of owners when it happens, greater likelihood of mauling their own family (which is different than reactivity or aggression towards *outsiders*), & attacks that are Level 5 maulings when they happen.

Are Pitbulls the only breed w/ an instability problem? “Cocker rage” exists, much more rarely so (Predominantly cream coloured American cocker males w/white backstripe). Cockers are also 15lbs & weren’t bred for 200yrs to fight. Ankle scratch is not the same as a family massacre.

“Pitbulls were bred to be Nana dogs” is just about the stupidest lie I’ve ever heard in my life, & if you ever believed it I hope you feel stupid, bc you are. They are descendants of English bull-baiting dogs, bred to bite & hold bulls & bears around the head. The pro pit ASPCA:

So even if you put aside the instability for a moment — today’s Pitbulls have been intentionally bred for 200yrs to go for the neck & to fight. Humans who dogfight should be put to death & its not the dogs fault, agreed. That doesnt change the reality Pitbulls are a UNIQUE threat

& danger, due to their genetic predisposition to have 0 bite restraint, their predisposition to actively attack other dogs (which is different than a dog being territorial of his space/people/food),& their genetic predisposition to go SPECIFICALLY for the neck when they do attack

All of that, in a 70-100lb package of dense concrete skull, with a cherry on top of genetic instability that can flip the murder-machine switch on even the best trained, nobly raised pitbull, & not towards strangers but TOWARD THEIR OWN FAMILY

So, what about after an attack?

When a Tibetan Mastiff or an Ovcharka kills someone, the 1st people you see sharing the articles are the ADOPTERS of that breed. Experienced guard breed rescuers like me, who took in the “discarded by 3 homes by 4 months old” Tibetan Mastiff, which I did so he would never be bred

We don’t hide the breed name, we don’t victim blame, we don’t “All Lives Matter” a victim’s post about how a golden retriever “bit a kid once in 1979 too!”. Instead, we share it. And say “see! This is why people should never purchase them! They are not pets, they will KILL you!”

We do it because we love. our. breed. Loving the breed means not wanting to see any more put down, because someone inevitably reads a blogpost that “all dogs can be bad, its just about the training!” & decides to spend $10k on a Tibetan Mastiff thinking training can make a lapdog

Contrast that with The Pitbull Lobby. Predominantly unmarried, childless liberal women who subconsciously needed a new group to save & champion. Having a rescue pit is a virtue symbol for them the same way pitbulls are a status symbol for drug dealers—just for a different reason.

They don’t care about Pitbulls, they can barely even walk them. Neither do the “no kill” shelters who refuse to behaviourally euthanize even aggressive dogs, and end up lying about behaviour & adopting dogs into homes where they’re bound to fail just so they can get rid of them.

Well bred Tibetans, Dobermans, Rotties—those breeds have a working purpose! Which they EXCEL at, in an environment where CHANNELED for that work! You can trust your well bred & well trained protection dog not to turn on you, they are consistent. Pitbulls have 0 purpose but fight.

Pitbulls are dangerous, unstable, single-minded, & untrustworthy. None of us who appreciate well bred protection breeds likes or trusts them. Stop putting the safety of your kids in jeopardy so you can prove a point. They should be homed to single men with experience & that is it

Im blown away, thank you💜. A sensitive issue with good people on all sides, no one wins when a mauling happens (I’ve been on the end of one with my own non-PB rescue, now passed, who had seizure-induced rage..still cant talk about it). Going to turn this into in a longform piece
