01) Ever wonder why Pakistan got Independence on the 14th & India on the 15th of August?

Mountbatten wanted to personally attend both Pakistan's and India's Independence ceremony!
This wouldn't have been possible if both the countries gained Independence on the same day.

02) Even though both Pakistan & India achieved Independence on 14th & 15th of August

respectively, it wasn't until the 17th of August that there was an announcement of a border between the 2 countries.
03) The so-called Father of the Nation, M.K.Gandhi was not present in Delhi during the partition. Instead, he was in Calcutta, on August 15, 1947.

04) Believe it or NOT -Cyril Radcliffe, the man who designed/ bifurcated/ partitioned Greater India- the border between the 2 countries arrived in India only a few days before the partition & had no knowledge about anything except the geographical layout of the country.

05) On June 3, 1947, the Partition Plan was announced which required the Punjab and Bengal Provinces assemblies to vote on whether they wanted to keep their provinces united or partitioned. Both the assemblies voted in favour of partitioning their provinces.

06) Chittagong, with only 2% Muslim population & 95% Hindu Population went to Pakistan (now Bangladesh)
Chittagong was given to East Pakistan to make up for the loss of Calcutta even though it was a Hindu majority.
District/city! - Lahore had Hindus & Sikhs in a majority

and way up in assets but still, it was given to Pakistan because Radcliff realized that Pakistan would not have any larger city but Currachi/ Karachi.

On the day of partition, people of Bengal's Muslim- dominated districts- Murshidabad & Malda- had put up Pakistani flags on

their houses, but they later came to know that these were part of India.

06) Astrologers were consulted to take out an appropriate date for the event. Unfortunately, they could not decide on an auspicious date & thus the midnight of August 15th was decided by Mountbatten.

07) Do you know what all Pakistan got after the partition? Well, they got
2 metropolitan cities out of 6 Currachi/Karachi & Lahore
1/3rd Indian Army
Cash and other assets in the ratio of 1:4

08) The population of undivided India in 1947 was approx 39 crores. After partition,

there were 33 crores people in India, 3 crores in West Pakistan, and 3 crore people in East Pakistan
(now Bangladesh).

Once the lines were established, about 1.45 crore people crossed the borders.
