As a Sarawakian, I find it incredible to listen to SUPP people to use arguments like:
"West Malaysia is in disarray and Sarawak must be united to vote GPS"
"Don't vote for Malaya party"
This perception is pretty questionable.
About unity, it depends on what unity you are talking about.
Unity in terms of loving Sarawak, the land of hornbills? Absolutely.
Support Sarawak in SUKMA, and Sarawakians at international stage? Absolutely.
Liking Sarawak Laksa? Also absolutely.
The problem is that the use of unity and state nationalism/regionalism to moral kidnap and coerce people mentally to vote for you.
It is a good election strategy. Others might take the bait, but I watch comedy shows from the West, so I know what's real substance and what's BS.
SUPP tends to use emphasize state and local issues. That is my perception, not sure others.
National issues really don't help, considering that GPS is, to quote Mayor Wee of Kuching South, friendly to PN Govt, then BN Govt.
How is the central govt job? Mediocre at best.
I am not saying that any party is holy whatsoever, but when it is beyond reasonable doubt that one side is really terrible, then why support the said side? Because "Malaya"?
SUPP will lambast DAP until the Sun dies, but quiet on Najib. Maybe Najib is not Malaya, who knows?
I respect people in both GPS and PH in Sarawak. I honestly do.
But after having witnessed the past 4.5 years, and just acquired the right to vote in federal elections, I already know who to vote.
The choice is very straight forward.
I ask everyone. Everyone. To look at the bigger picture. Emotions will run high, but we must be better than that.
After all are done, we must respect each other's political positions. We must unite as per Sarawakian spirit. This is one of the few that I agree with Mayor Wee.
I welcome rebuttals and opinions, as long as it is not personal attack.
