On #NationalComingOutDay, I'm proud to share my coming out story. Like so many in the LGBTQ+ community, coming out wasn’t an easy thing to do. My family was traditional and conservative. Being gay in my family wasn’t something that you mentioned out loud or celebrated.
But my family, like many families, grew to accept who I was. Who I loved didn’t change who I was as a person. It didn’t change the things I liked to do, and it didn’t change the goals I had for my life.
The beauty of America is its freedom and the promise that you can do anything you want regardless of your race, sex, country of origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
We cannot take this freedom for granted, which is why I'm so honored to serve @POTUS and @FLOTUS. They stand with all of us who have come out, are thinking about coming out, and will come out.
Don’t feel discouraged if you come out and your family doesn’t embrace you right away. Love always wins!

.@POTUS delivering remarks in Florida after surveying damage from Hurricane Ian: “Jill and I have had you in our prayers…and we’re here today to be with you in person.”
“Today, we have one job: to get the people of Florida what they need to fully recover.”
“Search and rescue teams have knocked on nearly 70,000 doors and rescued 3800 people…Over 4,000 federal personnel are on the ground right now. The Army Corps of Engineers is providing emergency power to hospitals, nursing homes, and water treatment plants.”
All women should have access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care and should be able to make their own decisions about their bodies.
We are encouraged by the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision that will allow the proposed amendment to the state constitution affirming a woman’s right to choose to be put on the ballot this November.
Hundreds of thousands of people across Michigan took action to protect women’s access to abortion and reproductive care by getting this measure on the ballot.
The Administration is reviewing today’s decision by the Northern District of Texas. The Affordable Care Act has been the law of the land for over 10 years.
In addition to making affordable health insurance available to millions of Americans, the ACA has guaranteed free access to critical preventive medical services—from cancer screenings to HIV prevention drugs like PrEP.
That guarantee is critical to the health and wellbeing of millions of Americans, particularly LGBTQI+ Americans, people of color, pregnant women, and others.
We are closely monitoring the floods in Mississippi, and the @POTUS has been briefed.
At his direction, we have been in regular contact with state and local officials, including Mayor Lumumba, and made clear that the Federal Government stands ready to offer assistance.
FEMA is working closely with the state officials to identify needs, and the EPA is coordinating with industry partners to expedite delivery of critical treatment equipment for emergency repairs at the City of Jackson water treatment facilities.
The city of Jackson is using over $20 million in American Rescue Plan to address water and sewer infrastructure needs. We have also made about $75 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding available this year to provide clean and safe water across the state of Mississippi.
We are heartbroken to learn of the killing of Palestinian-American journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, and injuries to producer Ali Samoudi, today in the West Bank. We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and strongly condemn her killing.
Shireen was a reporting legend, followed closely by those who care about the region and is mourned by all who knew her.
Just last week, World Press Freedom Day marked the role journalists play in the free flow of information, ideas, opinions, including dissenting ones, as being essential to inclusive and tolerant societies. It is heart-wrenching to see the killing of a journalist one week later.
