Is the @BBC biased in its reporting on trans topics?

While it's difficult to analyse nuanced rhetoric in multiple articles, we can see who the BBC links *to* in their articles on trans topics.

Excluding internal links, The BBC overwhelmingly links to The Times & Telegraph... Image
Although small numbers, it can be seen that the BBC have dramatically increased the number of outbound links to other news media platforms in 2022, With 28 out of 50 links directed towards right-wing news platforms, The Times and Telegraph.

Data & graphs from @Dysphorum Project Image
In fact, the BBC have CONSISTENTLY linked to The Times more than any other publisher since 2016 in their articles on trans topics.

NB: The Times have been a prolific publisher on trans issues, with the vast majority of their articles being, objectively, trans-hostile. Image
Investigating non-news platforms the BBC links to in articles covering trans topics it becomes interesting...

The BBC has not linked to the Mermaids website in ANY article since 2018, and dramatically stopped linking to Stonewall in 2021. Yet they still link to anti-trans sites Image
@Dysphorum Project data shows that in 2018 the BBC linked to anti-trans lobby website 'Fair Play For Women' MORE than Stonewall - the largest LGBT Charity in Europe. Image
Even though the BBC has published 20 articles about or mentioning Mermaids since 2018, it has not linked to the charity's website ONCE!

Graph shows number of mentions of 'Mermaids' in BBC articles on trans topics

Data and graph from @Dysphorum Project database. Image
Similarly, despite the BBC mentioning Stonewall in 35 articles so far in 2022 (these are only the articles related to trans topics, the total could be more) they have not linked ONCE to the Stonewall website!

Graph shows mentions of 'Stonewall' in BBC articles on trans topics Image
Somewhat ironically, *this* article was the last time the BBC out-linked to Stonewall's website before they abruptly stopped linking. This is despite Stonewall being the largest LGBT charity in Europe. bbc.co.uk/news/entertain…
It's worth noting that the BBC aren't just linking to anti-trans hate platforms to reference their transphobia - They're signposting to the likes of 'Transgender Trend' as a 'reputable' source of information - as seen in this hyperlink embedded in the article in the next tweet... Image
Why is anti-trans lobby platform 'Transgender Trend' being linked to by @bbchealth in a (supposedly) reputable article giving information about puberty blockers?
bbc.co.uk/news/health-51…
In contrast, the BBC published an article on LGBT suicide citing "Mermaids, which helps young trans people, has had to alert police following concerns about callers wanting to kill themselves" Yet, didn't link to their website for those seeking help! bbc.co.uk/news/health-53…
Similarly, despite the BBC reporting "Mermaids has seen a 600% increase in demand for its helpline services" in an article about Mermaids awareness-raising campaign, they refuse to link to the very website that can help trans youth! bbc.co.uk/news/business-…
And in one of the most trans-hostile articles the BBC has published to date - prompting numerous complaints - there is still links to the transphobic 'gender critical' website 'Get The L Out' linking to a statistically invalid survey pushing transphobia.

In the interests of accuracy, it’s probably worth noting that the news of Hilary Cass leading the review of GIDS was actually announced on 30th January 2020 in the @NHSEngland website…

👉🏻 england.nhs.uk/2020/01/update…
Image
At the time of Hilary Cass’ appointment, Liz Truss was the Minister for Women & Equalities and Matt Hancock was the Minister for Health.

Both of which *could* have had influence over her appointment (which is possible knowing Truss’ ‘gender critical’ transphobic views)…
However, there was no overt indication that Hillary Cass was transphobic before her appointment - the closest thing to being ‘favourable to the ‘GC’ position’ was that she’d previously taken legal action against the NHS after ‘whistleblowing’…

The Cass Review recommendations have finally been published by @NHSEngland and it’s as dire as you might imagine! 😣

👉🏻

Some highlights…

The NHS says GPs CAN NOT now refer to the youth gender service. Instead going via CAMHS for “assessment” first! 😣 england.nhs.uk/commissioning/…
Image
Once reaching 17 yrs 9m old, any young person not seen by the youth gender service will be dismissed back to their GP to be referred to the GIC (despite the GP not being considered qualified enough to refer them in the first place) 🤷🏼‍♀️ Image
But don’t worry… the NHS are developing a “pass through” service (for trans ADULTS age 18-25) - presumably designed to STOP them passing through transition by further gatekeeping at the insistence of their ‘gender critical’ transonic parents/ clinicians? 🤔 Image

Outraged by the double standards in UK healthcare! 🚨 Why are puberty blockers for trans youth scrutinised for being "off-label" when meds like tricyclic antidepressants & asthma treatments are routinely prescribed off-label to minors without similar outrage?

#CassReview
The inconsistency is alarming! Many meds prescribed to minors, like tricyclic antidepressants for ADHD & Montelukast for allergies, haven’t undergone randomised control trials in under 18s. Yet, there’s silence. Why the bias when it comes to puberty blockers for trans youth?
Did you know? Tricyclic antidepressants are prescribed off-label for ADHD in kids, potentially causing serious side effects like heart issues & severe depression. Yet, there's no public outcry. Why the selective concern when it comes to puberty blockers for trans youth?

Let’s have a look at why trans pupils might need teachers to keep their confidence and NOT ‘out’ them to potentially ‘gender critical’ transphobic parents…

@aktcharity research shows 77% of young homeless LGBT people believe coming out to parents was the main factor!… Image
61% of young homeless trans people said that they felt threatened or at risk of violence from family members prior to their homelessness! 😞

Parents aren’t always supportive of their LGBTQ+ children, and there’s no way of telling how they’ll react! Image
Image
74% of young homeless trans people said they were repeatedly belittled by their family members to the extent they felt worthless.

64% said that family members stopped them expressing their trans identity before becoming homeless! 😔 Image

“We’ve been ‘TERFing’ and it’s been such fun”

It’s clear that for many ‘gender critical’ transphobes, being a transphobic bigot is just a recreational activity! 😣

These heartless transphobes clearly have no life outside of their obsessive bigoted campaigning!
They spent hours in the rain videoing themselves outside different Costa Coffee’s, all because of a trans-inclusive mural on the side of a coffee van in Brighton 2 years ago! 😣

This isn’t normal behaviour! #TERFCult #RecreationalTransphobia

Image
It’s obvious for a certain demographic of privileged, entitled, bored, transphobes, ‘gender critical’ “activism” is just a jolly wheeze and an opportunity to socialise with likeminded bigots! 😖

They’ve told themselves it’s “feminism” to avoid acknowledging it’s just bigotry!

Remember when @AoCPPtweet was criticised for hosting anti-trans hate group ‘Transgender Trend’ and they apologised and said they wanted to hear from a “wide range of perspectives”?

Since then they’ve platformed THREE anti-trans campaigners and NO trans people/trans-supporters!..
In February 2022 - only 4 months after it was brought to their attention that ‘Transgender Trend’ was an anti-trans lobby platform - @AoCPPtweet invited its founder, Stephanie Davies-Arai back to speak (indoctrinate) safeguarding professionals! 😣…

Then in April 2022 @AoCPPtweet invited prolific anti-trans campaigner Stella O’Malley to “advise” their members on how they should treat children with gender dysphoria! 😖…
