My predictions for #GujaratElections2022 , BJP should win with a better margin than they did in 2017. Again these predictions are tentative and might change once candidates are announced but I don't see any drastic changes.
The Patidar factor which was a major issue in 2017 is no longer there. Also the one who led the Patidar protests Hardik Patel is with BJP as is Alpesh Thakore, leaving only Jignesh Mewani on Congress side. #GujaratElections2022
Congress is in a complete shambles in Gujarat, it's leaders are jumping to BJP, and AAP's entry is going to further eat into its vote share. Personally don't see AAP making much impact, they might win couple of seats here and there that's it. #GujaratElections2022
BJP struggled the last time in North Gujarat and Saurashtra, this time they should put up a much better performance in both regions, with Patidar factor not much in play.
Main urban centres of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot are solidly behind BJP. Mind you Surat voted fully for BJP in 2017 even when traders were hit by demonetization. And these cities together have around 50 seats giving BJP an edge there .

In my series on Andhra Pradesh today looking at the famous Chenna Kesava Swamy temple in Macherla, now part of Palnadu district.
Macherla was one of the main cities of the Palnadu region, and the famous battle was fought in 1182, with Gurazala, that saw the demise of many smaller kingdoms and rise of the Kakatiya empire.
During the time of the ruling Haiheyas, there was a huge lake, with a temple dedicated to Mahadevi in it's midst. The place was named as Mahadevicherla, which in due course of time became Macherla.
The British come up with the Criminal Tribes Act on this date in 1871. One of the most draconian acts ever that classified entire communities as "criminal" , created ghettos, stigmatized them permanently.
Thread on this.
The CTA has been one of the most atrocious colonial legislations, on par with how the Aborgines in Australia were pushed off into enclaves, or the native Indian children forcibly resettled in Christian schools in Canada.
As per the CTA, certain ethnic communities in India were identified as "addicted to systematic commission of non bailable offences", they were resettled forcibly, their movements were restricted.
Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh. Two men, from different backgrounds, whose lives would come together during the Emergency. Both born on the same date.
Thread on their Jayanti.
#JayaprakashNarayan was from Bihar’s Saran district, his father was a lower Government official, and he later went on to study in the US too. Nanaji on the other hand, was from Maharashtra’s Hingoli district, had a tough childhood., and later rose up the ranks of the RSS.
Their ideologies too differed, where JP was socialist, left leaning, Nanaji’s was more rooted in the Integral Humanism of the Jan Sangh. And yet their paths came together during the Emergency and events preceeding it.
Meghnad Saha, whose Theory of Thermal Ionisation, is one of the landmarks of modern astronomy. Also introduced nuclear physics as a discipline in India. One of the great Indian scientists of modern era. Thread on his Jayanti today.
One of the most important scientific theories during the 20th century, has been the theory of thermal ionization. Basically an expression, that relates the ionization state of a gas, in thermal equilibrium to the temperature and pressure.
It combined the theories of quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics and is used to explain the spectral classification of stars. Arthur Stanley Eddington, called it as one of the most important landmark in the history of astronomy.
