Stabilization of #mastcells inhibits bacteria induced #neuroinflammation #MCAS pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31130850/
1/2 Microglia are the immune system of the brain. Researchers set out to discover if injecting the outer membrane of bacteria called LPS into mice triggered mast cells to activate microglia, contributing to neuroinflammation.
2/2 The determined bacterial LPS caused #mastcellactivation and cognitive impairment. The researchers also found the use of #cromolyn effectively stabilized mast cells and neuroinflammation and memory dysfunction.

[NEW REVIEW] Is immune cell exhaustion responsible for #MECFS?: Many people report the onset of #myalgicencephalomyelitis/#chronicfatiguesyndrome (ME/CFS) following an infectious-like illness, suggesting a persistent infection may be the cause (continued in comments).
1/5 Cellular metabolic dysfunction has also been implicated in ME/CFS. Chronic infections affect cellular metabolism, and cellular metabolism influences cellular function. However, immune cell exhaustion has not been explored in ME/CFS.
2/5 The author of this new review article looked at the immunometabolic dysfunction of T-cells and natural killer (NK) cells in ME/CFS and sought to determine if exhaustion occurred in specific immune cells, which is consistent with chronic viral infections.

[NEW RESEARCH] New findings associating #MECFS and #LongCOVID: A new preprint publication by 35 authors, including leading ME/CFS researchers Bob Naviaux and Bhupesh Prusty, identified a common biomarker pattern between ME/CFS and Long COVID (continued in comments). #COVID19
1/5 Identifying these biomarkers has significant benefits since diagnostic markers have yet to be identified.
2/5 Findings:
Reactivated #herpes virus infections
· Increased IgG antibody response against #EBV and HSV-1 in ME/CFS and Long Covid
· Significantly higher IgG response to HSV-1 in mild and severe Long Covid
· IgG antibodies to HHV-6 were significant in ME/CFS, and not Long COVID

[RESEARCH] Mitochondrial function is critical for proper immune response: #Mitochondria are often thought of as the powerhouse of the cell and their role in energy production (continued in comments). #chronicillness #chronicLyme
1/5 Because of the immune system’s high energy requirement, mitochondria play an essential role in an effective immune response.
2/5 The mitochondria-immune system connection:
• The link between immune cell function and mitochondrial function is recognized as immunometabolism
• Mitochondria signal the activation of the immune system

NEW RESEARCH: Fibronectin causes #Lyme and #Bartonella adhesion to blood vessel walls. Successful infection depends on the bacteria’s ability to adhere to cells and avoid the immune system (continued in comments). #Lymedisease pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37343664/
1/6 Adhesion of bacteria to the host’s cells is the first step in establishing an infection, followed by colonization, replication, persistence, and release of virulence factors to disseminate the infection.
2/6 The lining of blood vessels (endothelium) is the largest surface area in the body and is a common site for pathogens to come into contact with host tissue. The extracellular matrix provides the structure for the endothelial cells and contains the protein fibronectin.

[CASE] Autoimmune #Scleroderma associated with Mercury, #Mold, and #Babesia: I recently saw a 50-year-old female suffering from joint pain, stiffness, muscle weakness, and poor circulation (continued in comments).
1/8 Recently, she began to have trouble swallowing. About ten months ago, she saw a rheumatologist who diagnosed her with scleroderma.
2/8 Scleroderma is an autoimmune condition, and conventional medicine’s approach to treatment is to use immune-suppressing medications or chemotherapeutic drugs. The patient tried Cellcept for a month, but her symptoms worsened.

Does SOT work for #Lymedisease? SOT stands for supportive oligonucleotide therapy, originally called anti-sense oligonucleotide therapy (AOT). Creating a patient’s SOT treatment is done by sending their blood to a laboratory in Greece (continued in comments). #Lyme
1/4 The lab attempts to identify the primary genetic sequence of target genes, in this case, Lyme. The lab then creates an “anti-copy” of the replication sequence of the gene. There are additional steps in creating an individual’s SOT before administering intravenously.
2/4 SOT is not approved for use against Lyme disease, and there is little published evidence that it works for tickborne infections. Doctors who treat Lyme disease report that SOT helps some patients but not the majority.
