Last week I witnessed an EV fire during Hurricane Ian operations. Firefighters put out the fire, then it would reignite. The teams said it was a result of salt water affecting compromised batteries, so we asked for additional information from @NHTSAgov. They responded. (1/5)
Here was the feds key takeaways: 1.) “[W]e can confirm your experience in North Collier with reignition is not an isolated event…” (2/5)
2.) “Lithium-ion vehicle battery fires have been observed both rapidly igniting and igniting several weeks after battery damage occurred.” (3/5)
3.) “Test results specific to saltwater submersion show that salt bridges can form within the battery pack and provide a path for short circuit and self-heating. This can lead to fire ignition.” (4/5)
This is important information as Florida’s first responders continue the work in Southwest, FL. We are distributing this information to our fire teams and will continue working to mitigate these threats. (5/5)

Under the Biden-Harris admin., home insurance rates have skyrocketed 37%. The Consumer Price Index has jumped nearly 20%.
Everything is more expensive.
And the people who got us into this CRISIS, are not going to lead us out. On the contrary, it will get WORSE. (2/8)
Skyrocketing costs are mainly federal failures, like inflation. When lumber, nails & labor cost more, so do premiums. Plus, folding in ESG and politicizing insurance markets is insane.
@realDonaldTrump is the only businessman running for POTUS. He can right this ship. (3/8)
Today, FEMA granted a waiver that will allow National Flood Insurance Program policyholders to access tens-of-thousands of dollars upfront without having to go through a normal claims process or involving an adjuster. MORE HERE: bit.ly/3riEpWP#HurricaneIan (1/4)
This process cuts through a lot of red tape, and provides critical funding to policyholders who can provide FEMA with basic information of out-of-pocket expenses related to repair or replacement of NFIP-insured property. (2/4)
These advance payments are going to be essential to help Florida families get started on the difficult work of rebuilding. (3/4)
The more I learn about GoFundMe, the more I don’t like it. At Surfside they had to shutdown fraudulent accounts, which diverted cash from families. Think about it: it doesn’t take a lot of effort to put the word “Surfside” in an account and get cash with little effort.(1/4)
Meanwhile, GoFundMe is defaulting people into fees. They say you don’t have to pay anything, but it’s on you to opt-out. That’s not ethical. They know what they’re doing. Other charities don’t do that. Transparency is always a good policy and GoFundMe doesn’t practice it (2/4)
Now they’re interfering with political movements to fight against govt mandates. So not only do they not operate like a normal charity, now they’re choosing sides - and going against truckers who deliver EVERYTHING we rely on. That’s not good. (3/4)
I’ve gotten fed up with the Biden Administration’s war against COVID treatments. I’ve got around 2,000 employees I am responsible for, and I am the state’s Fire Marshal helping to support Florida’s 45 K firefighters. (1/5)
For some reason the Biden Administration is vaccine and masking obsessed. I like vaccines too! I got mine. But I am seeing A LOT of breakthrough cases by people who love the mask and got the shot. And when do these boosters end? Ever? (2/5)
Seems like the early treatments that @GovRonDeSantis is pushing is a good idea to keep folks out of the hospital, but the Biden team just isn’t serious about it. They give out some, and then they take it back. What gives? It’s not priority to them. WHY? (3/5)
Looks like the IRS is willing to move their reporting requirement from a $600 to $10K threshold. Ok then. If the Biden Administration thinks moving the reporting threshold by a few thousand dollars changes anything – then he really is disconnected from normal people. (1/6)🧵
He supposedly is trying to shake down billionaires and fight fraud, but he wants to go after middle class bank accounts and small businesses? He’s lying. The entire administration is lying. And they know they’re lying. (2/6)
They’re trying to spend trillions, upon trillions of dollars, and they need hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes to look at the cameras and say with a straight face – it will cost taxpayers nothing – which is a lie. (3/6)
