2/x He said it is important to raise awareness of COVID-19. Many are suffering & people are still being hospitalisation & not recovering from it. 🧐 Health advocacy is important 💪. You must speak truth 🔊, use expertise, work for patients to appropriately lead emergency plans.
3/x He said it is important to acknowledge that we stand on the shoulders of giants, but it is also important for the new generation of health scientists 🧪 to show the way forwards when there are new ideas that can help and where there is experience. 🙂. His career showed this.
4/x Why is this important? Well, @JNkengasong changed the world and he inspired us to do the same for our projects and programmes. He challenged us all at the @IAPartnership to do so and this was visionary. For me this is about safeguarding the #immunocompromised in the UK.
5/x. There are half a million immunocompromised people in the UK. Many are still shielding, still in isolation, still unable to work, see friends or hug loved ones. They are #forgotten500k, unheard and calling on us to notice
6/x Prophylactic antibody therapies like #evusheld give back an “immune” system to those who are immunocompromised. It is a way out of the pandemic for those who can't respond to vaccines. Studies from Israel/France/US show it is working well, even against omicron.
7/x 32 countries are delivering additional levels of protection this winter to protect immunocompromised patients, using new therapies, not available in the UK- prophylactic antibody therapies. For everyone else but the UK, this *STANDARD PRACTICE* #evusheld
8/x Thanks to patients, clinicians @AlexRichter3 @ProfBMT + myself as champions, the UK clinical community has sprung into action. Patients, 125 clinicians from 17 medical specialities & 4 nations are calling for a decision, an end to indefinite delays and to listen to doctors
9/x They are asking for a Winter roll out or pilot this winter and time is running out before Christmas. Cases are rising, but the voices of the #immunocompromised are still not heart despite unwaiving and universal support from their clinicians.
10/x They are waiting for @RobertJenrick and @theresecoffey for new leadership with fresh ideas to protect the #forgotten500k. To allow them to have their first Christmas in 3 years. To see family. Tens of thousans of people are backing #forgotten500k campaign.#evusheld
11/x As usual, my thoughts are with those suffering mental health from the ongoing delays and indecision and slow processes. There is support from clinicians and also new direction from many global leads and international colleages who find the UK position simply untenable.🤔
