When I say that the fundamental task of the US left is to break w/the Democratic Party & recreate the "Bernie moment" outside of it through a #LeftCoalition, this is what something like that could look like: stadium-filling crowds in support of a far-left political message.

The US left is fragmented, the parties are small & many are revisionist or not Marxist at all, & the general level of education & class consciousness of the working class is pretty terrible overall.

When there is a strong communist party that is close to the working masses & following a correct line consistently for a long period of time, then of course it is preferable to recommend that to politically inclined workers.
Until then, we have to build up some base for action.

The intervening years would likely be challenging as parties decide to enter the #LeftCoalition or not, they decide how the coalition will be internally governed, what demands to make central in their shared campaign, & how to act on them, but it would mean progress for the left.
Bernie Sanders is a coward who abandoned the left for the capitalist-controlled Democratic Party, where change is not & never has been possible, & he knows it.
But what we learned through his campaign is that there are stadium-filling crowds just about everywhere wanting change.

This is the USA, one of the most reactionary countries around, so of course the average worker is not fully in support of socialism yet or even aware of what that actually means.

For many who're aware of US politics, stepping outside the Democratic Party means stepping into a terrifying wasteland of capitalist slander & "fringe spectator" status -- basically, isolated irrelevancy.
