@GretaThunberg has run rings around some of the most powerful men in the world. Not because she is a Machiavellian evil genius, but simply because she is honest. She is pretty smart, but mainly very honest. She simply said it like it was.
bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…
1/🧵
The reason Greta came to the fore, was that nearly every powerful or influential person, including most, but not all academics, were in total denial of the nature of the ecological and climate emergency. Greta just cut through all the bullshit.
2/
As Greta says in this short interview, all these lies told about her, all the attacks by very powerful men, say much more about them, than her. In fact, these lies say nothing about Greta, because they are lies, and she is not a liar, but simply very honest.
3/
In the story of the Emperor's clothes, the little boy that stands up and shouts the Emperor is naked, was not a genius, he was simply very honest, and most importantly, not in denial. That is all Greta did, was to not be in denial of the situation.
4/
Just like in the story of the Emperor's clothes, where everyone went along with the mass delusion that the Emperor was wearing the finest set of clothes in the world, because the Emperor was fooled by a simple scam, this is the story of the ecological and climate crisis.
5/
It should have been always obvious that you can't have infinite growth in a finite world. It only seems possible, if you are in total denial of the bleeding obvious. Now Greta was not the first to spot this, but she got a platform, and simply said it like it was.
6/
This is the reason for all the lies and hate about Greta, because what she said, should have been absolutely obvious to anyone not in denial. She simply burst the bubble of the delusional denial about the ecological and climate crisis.
7/
From now on, I am going to write it as the ecological and climate crisis, as that is what it is. It is an ecological crisis, and the climate crisis is part of the ecological crisis. It is not separate from it. It's just a suite of crises, that make up the ecological crisis.
8/
It was just another bit of the denial most people were in, that somehow the climate crisis was apart from the general ecological sustainability crisis.
9/
Coming back to Greta's point, about the lies told about her, saying more about other people than about her, especially dumbasses like Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Jair Bolsonaro. It really does speak volumes about them.
10/
Let's take Donald Trump, he is just a dumbass. He is not a clever liar. Anyone one not in denial and part of his cult, can see he is lying. If the dumbass, wasn't super rich from birth no one would have heard of this incredibly stupid man. He's not remarkable in anyway.
11/
As the invasion of Ukraine has demonstrated. Vladimir Putin was not the evil genius he and his cult followers made out. He has got feet of clay. This leads on to the big question. How come such stupid people became so powerful in our world.
12/
Likewise, how did the stupid lie that you can have infinite growth in a finite world, ever become so predominant, that this suicidal economic model came to rule the world?

That is what this thread is about.
13/
Very simply, because most of us have been living in a cult for millennia, for countless generations. When early rulers became powerful beyond a certain point, they created personality cults and power structures, that perpetuated themselves.
threadreaderapp.com/thread/1535959…
14/
The most important thing about a cult, is the power it has over its members. If you have a powerful system, where someone is powerful, simply because of the position they hold, the whole rule by stupid people is perpetuated.
15/
If anyone is still in denial about this. Please explain how the self-evidently very stupid Liz Truss, became PM of the UK and managed to crash the economy with weeks of getting the post.
16/
The ecological and climate crisis, is a crisis of stupidity. The outcome of a cult of stupidity. Where people can become all powerful rulers, by accident of birth, vast wealth, created by dishonesty, and Machiavellian behaviour, not intelligence.
17/
This is how cults operate. Because no one can quite believe it, that this all powerful cult leader, was actually a stupid person who had no idea what they were talking about. We have become trapped in this power cult and the rule by stupid liars.
18/
It is not a matter of replacing one ruler with another (because there are no true leaders in positions of power) in our system. It is the system of power that is at fault. It seems to simple to be true, but it is.
19/
You see, there are lots of stupid conspiracy theories about how @GretaThunberg rose to prominence. The answer if far more prosaic. At long last an honest person got a platform, and simply said it like it was. It really is that simple.
20/
Our whole current system is built upon a lie, that you can have infinite growth in a finite system. No you really can't, it was always a lie. #AntiGrowthCoalition
21/
“In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”.

Has often been attributed to George Orwell, but it appears to be a précis of 1984, not a direct quote. But it is apt to describe all that @GretaThunberg did. She simply pointed to the scientific truth.
22/
Yes, it is a difficult one to grasp. That actually the supposedly marvellous system we have created, is actually a dumbass lie, based on a dumbass lie, and run by dumbasses. Dumbass cult leaders. But it is the truth.
23/
The truth is much stranger than any fiction.

It's not better leaders (all our supposed leaders are actually rulers, the head of cults within cults) we need, but a better system. We just need to snap out of the denial.
24/
We just need to snap out of this cult like devolution towards cult leaders that are leading us towards global suicide because of the ecological and climate emergency, they have both created, and which they persist in ignoring through total denial.
25/
Before any dumbasses come along to ridicule me for my devotion to @GretaThunberg, I need to point out that I was saying what Greta said, before she was born. Greta simply got a platform, and she said it so well.
26/
Ironically, this illustrates the whole problem. That a lot of people take notice of what someone says, simply because of the platform from which they speak. Greta merely had that platform for a short while, and used it to simply speak truth to power.
27/
The even bigger irony, is the powerful stupidly thought they were going to use @GretaThunberg for their own ends, but then to their shock, realised they were dealing with an incorruptible honest person. This is why they de-platformed Greta at COP26.
28/
It really is ironic, that Greta proved how the power trick works. Where people will listen to you, if you have the right platform. This is the whole trick of the bizarre mix between a cult and a scam, in which we are now living.
29/
Most of the powerful people, the influential people in our system, are just scammers, fraudsters and freeloaders, doing it for themselves. They are not leaders. They are leading us towards global suicide. Stop being sheep, and stop following them.
30/
Humans can create a great society, the one this system was always supposed to be. They just need to snap out of the denial, start looking at the reality. To step out of the divide and conquer trick they have been wrapped up in, and cooperate to create a sustainable society.

@GretaThunberg @NewStatesman In my huge in depth look into the ecological crisis for over half a century, I can be absolutely certain why politicians are not the answer. Governments and politicians were a creation to perpetuate the fossil fuel economy started during the industrial revolution.
1/
@GretaThunberg @NewStatesman The large states and governance of the type necessary to perpetuate the model of extractivism developed during the industrial revolution, are as one. It is necessary to absolutely control these large territories, to implement this industrial extractivism.
2/
@GretaThunberg @NewStatesman Think about this. How else could licences be granted to extract fossil fuels, and to extract other mineral resourced, by corporations, without the framework of modern style of government. That is what they exist for. That's why politicians refuse to change anything.

This is beyond Orwellian. Because in Orwell's 1984, he failed to even imagine future governments would go this far. That this government is even considering this, IMHO, totally invalidates the legitimacy of this government.
1/🧵
When I was at school in the 1960s and 1970s, during the Cold War, we were repeatedly told, indeed indoctrinated to believe, that what separated supposed "free countries" from "police states", was that we were free to have opinions, views that differed from the state.
2/
That we were free to protest, and not to fear state persecution for our beliefs. That we were free to communicate, without oppressive state monitoring of our everyday communication.

@GeorgeMonbiot The real question is too little time for what?

There's certainly too little time to save and preserve business as usual i.e. the current human system.

However, it's never too late to save human lives, to prevent even greater human suffering or to stop more biodiversity loss.
1/
@GeorgeMonbiot As I keep explaining - the action most likely to produce the most radical and unpleasant change to the system, is ironically trying to preserve business as usual, and to preserve the status quo. It is an aim that is a physical impossibility, doomed to failure.
2/
@GeorgeMonbiot I was explaining long before @GretaThunberg that change is coming whether you like it or not. I am eternally grateful to Greta, for using her platform to amplify this most important of points. This is what lay behind all my commenting on the Guardian.

The hysteria over this action defies belief. The false argument generated over it suggests mass derangement.

The silliest false argument is this action is no way to win public support. This pre-supposes we were on our way to addressing the climate crisis, until this action.
1/🧵
Before going on, I need to clarify 2 points about this action, to prevent further false argument. Firstly, I make a point of not commenting on the effectiveness of individual acts of non-violent direct action.
2/
Secondly, my understanding is that the painting was behind glass, and so was not actually damaged by this action. Yet there are reams of irrational hysteria talking about cultural vandalism i.e. they make no sense, because no cultural artefact was actually vandalized.

This is a good opportunity to explain how and why this whole line of thinking is mistaken.

The question assumes that the whole problem that needs to be solved, is how to carry on with business as usual, just not using fossil fuels.
1/🧵
This is not a criticism of the person asking this question, as it appears to be the assumption most politicians are making, most corporations, the media and the whole establishment. So you can hardly blame an ordinary member of the public for thinking like this.
2/
Firstly, we need to recognise this is a climate and ecological crisis. In fact, the ecological part should be put first, because the climate crisis is just one part of the ecological crisis.

OMG. The sheer delusion. This is the big problem with the huge parliamentary majority the Conservatives have. Because it is possible that this deluded, incompetent, nasty, and not particular popular politician, could become PM. Ditto, Truss became PM.
1/🧵
You'll often hear the Tories claim they've a mandate to do what ever they want, because 14 million people voted for their agenda. Let's analyse this. Actually only 13,966,454 voted for them. But rounding up, fair enough.

The population of the UK is 68,697,963, but we will take it as 69 million. Of that 21% are under 18. That is 14,490,000, which leaves 54,510,000. Let's call it 54 million people of voting age. I had to do the calculations myself.
