As we recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, our PPE Investigations unveiled a lot of corruption that happened under emergency procurement processes in multiple departments in the country. The SIU investigated 5345 contracts related to PPE tenders. #SIUWorkingForYou
During the 2021/2022 financial year, the SIU recover R436 million worth of cash and/or assets, and through our intervention the State saved R6.263 billion. We have made 570 referrals to relevant prosecuting authority when we found evidence pointing to criminal activity.
The SIU recovered money for SOEs and was able to also save SOEs money from irregular contracts that have been set aside.#SIUWorkingForYou

The SIU's Head of Unit, Adv Andy Mothibi, is now presenting the status of the SIU investigations at Eskom.
Adv Mothibi says that the presentation will focus on the status of the investigations and the outcomes.

SIU WELCOMES ORDER SETTING ASIDE A DECISION BY FORMER SABC EXECUTIVES TO PAY MUSIC LEGENDS OVER R2.4 MILLION.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) welcomes the Special Tribunal’s judgement declaring a decision by the former SABC executives to pay 53 music legends R50 000 each to be irregular, unlawful, invalid, and set it aside.
The payments were incentives for supporting the SABC by compensating music legends who allegedly not receiving needle time royalties prior to 1996.

1. In 2016, the SIU was authorised to investigate Lepelle Northern Water and the Department of Human Settlements. Below is the scope and background of the investigation.

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) welcomes the arrest of six people by the Hawks for fraud, corruption and money laundering related to Covid-19 personal protective equipment (PPE) in the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport. #SIUWorkingForYou
