Obama has admitted his failure in Iran, but what of Crimea? What of Syria? Worse, why make the same mistakes again now? He's more subtle, of course, but his comments about limits are the same vein of appeasement as Musk's.
Putin is bragging about attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure, acts of terror. Resolve and deterrence are required, not preemptive self-deterrence that convinces Putin he can get away with even the unimaginable.
Saying Ukraine's defense cannot be allowed to expand into a war with NATO is absurd when Putin already launched that war, long ago. Ignoring it in 2014 didn't make it go away. There's no guarantee of security, but appeasement guarantees escalation.
Putin has shown over and over that he talks big against strength but only acts against weakness. Russia is waging a war of extermination and is preparing new attacks on Kyiv and the north. Stop lecturing Ukraine about limits and stop Putin.
Iran is now an active participant in the murder of Ukrainian civilians. Where are the red lines, this time to be enforced? Are Iranian drone factories underground with its nuclear program? It's a war, and pretending it's not is how you lose.
The West has overwhelming advantages but, as in 2014, is rushing to take things off the table to reassure terrorist dictatorships they are free to escalate when they like. They are afraid of victory and so guarantee more conflict, more deaths.

As Ukraine regains its territory, Putin increases terror attacks against civilians, now with Iran's direct support. Winning the war as quickly as possible is the only way to save lives. Raise the stakes for Putin's grip on power, not for innocent Ukrainians.
Terror states are uniting to destroy Ukraine and the world order, and do so with little skin in the game. The allies are more concerned about limiting Ukraine than deterring and destroying the terrorists and invaders.
Underestimating the ability of autocrats to cause harm and chaos with no regard for others or human life has been the hallmark of the West's inability to stand up to Putin, as well as would-be autocrats in their own nations.
Whoever attacked the Crimean bridge timed it for dawn to minimize civilian casualties. Putin also launches attacks at dawn, but does so to maximize casualties in the civilian centers he repeatedly targets. 1/4
Russia's response to military failure is to murder more civilians. It doesn't even try to deny it, or pretend there were military targets. Putin's lieutenants and propagandists are openly celebrating the murder of sleeping Ukrainian children. 2/4
Russia is no longer a state sponsor of terror, but a fully terrorist state. The only way to end the terror is to give Ukraine everything they need to defend and win the war as quickly as possible. Any further delay means being Putin's accomplice in murder. 3/4
Today I am honored to deliver the 36th Enid and R. Crosby Kemper Lecture at the St. Mary the Virgin Church at the Winston Churchill Museum in Fulton, Missouri. You can watch live here at 12:30pm ET, 11:30 local. nationalchurchillmuseum.org/10-07-22-kempe…
On the site of Churchill's famous "Iron Curtain" speech, titled "The Sinews of Peace", where Truman invited him in 1946. It was a warning and an exhortation to the free world to lead with values and strength against totalitarianism. The same is needed today.
Today is also Putin's 70th birthday, and while the little dictator hides in his bunker, terrified of his own people, I will speak in Fulton before true friends of freedom and dissident heroes from all over whose courage must inspire us all.
@elonmusk And I praised you as so many did for those acts. But should good deeds purchase immunity for later bad ones, or should every act & statement be judged on its merits? Should Ukrainians who thanked you for Starlink be silent when you spread Kremlin talking points against them?
@elonmusk I always admired you for pushing exploration and taking risks in a way that had been lost for a generation. But great achievements demand higher standards for future actions, not lower.
@elonmusk To address the core issue of the countless comments here, discarding or diminishing Ukrainian sovereignty is unacceptable. As someone who has championed Ukraine and individual liberty broadly as you have in the past, this should be clear.
This is moral idiocy, repetition of Kremlin propaganda, a betrayal of Ukrainian courage & sacrifice, and puts a few minutes browsing Crimea on Wikipedia over the current horrific reality of Putin's bloody war.
Who are you to reward years of Putin's war crimes with Ukrainian blood and land? To declare done what evil crimes must be undone? It is not too late to delete this and say you were high. Please do.
Rebutting the known fallacies: 1) Ukraine was neutral in 2014 and Russia attacked & occupied it, invading again this year. Never again. 2) The greatest nuclear threat comes from concessions to Putin, not standing up to him. 3) The only real peace will be when Russia is defeated.
My new op-ed: "Putin is losing in Ukraine and is doubling down on his brutal war in ways that will also lose him Russia. Now is the time for Ukraine’s allies to press the advantage and to make this war’s goals loud and clear." nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-ope…
"Treaties and paperwork matter, but tanks and artillery matter even more now. Putin's latest illegal annexation further exposes the false nature of Russia's claims on Crimea, which should finally end Western hesitation in supporting its liberation as well."
