We’ve got some thoughts about @Google and their recent decision to allow Trump’s Truth Social on their app store. Let’s talk.🧵
In 2021, Google pledged to “continue to fight hate speech online through our policies, tools and programs, including new funding for governments and leading NGOs” at an international event aimed at fighting anti-Semitism. Image
*But* they approved Truth Social on their app store just last week—despite the fact that the app has been a haven for misinformation, racism, anti-Semitism and violent extremism. reuters.com/technology/goo…
Four days later Trump posted on Truth Social saying that Jews in the United States must “get their act together” and show more appreciation for the state of Israel “before it is too late,” invoking both a threat and a harmful dual loyalty trope. washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/…
And he’s not the only one who sees Truth Social as a haven to spread anti-Semitic rhetoric without consequence. After Kanye West was locked out of Twitter for posting anti-Semitic remarks and conspiracies, he moved to join Truth Social and buy Parler.

There has also long been a connection between Trump’s anti-democratic efforts and anti-Semitism, especially as witnessed on January 6th: apnews.com/article/electi…
Google had been considering not allowing Truth Social because it did not meet Google’s content moderation standards. But last week they apparently decided to cave.
Bottom line: There is no way Google can adhere to its stated values and host Truth Social on the Google Play store.

We've gotten our hands on a ton of documents from the USSS that show the Secret Service not taking threats posed by supporters of President Trump seriously. Here's what we've learned:

Last year, we got docs from the Secret Service showing they were tracking 82 events supporting Trump and contesting the election, including one called "Occupy the Capitol." The Secret Service's assessment? "There is no indication of civil disobedience." citizensforethics.org/reports-invest…
The Secret Service also downplayed the possibility of violence from the Proud Boys--a group whose most recent gatherings in DC had ended in violence and arrests--saying falsely that the group’s “demonstrations have concluded without arrests.”

And just two months ago, we reported that new documents make clear just how the Secret Service utterly failed to take seriously the threat of violence on January 6th, despite alerts about plans for protesters to occupy the Capitol and bring guns.

2) 18 U.S.C. § 371 Conspiring to commit campaign finance offenses and/or defraud the enforcement of campaign finance laws (2015-2017)

Six months ago, we reported that Ginni Thomas holds a position in the government as a member of the the Library of Congress Trust Fund Board, after being appointed by President Trump in 2020.

Somehow, she still has that role.
