This place is pretty new, possibly 2 months old? They went really simple on decor: muted tones & an open plan space which makes it seem bigger than it is, there’s some outside seating but majority is indoors. #nairobieats
The menu is quite limited, which may concern some but for what they offer I think the menu fits. We had some coffees, the Chicken and Waffle (950/), Shakshuka (1200/), Apple Crumble French toast (900/) and Prawn tempura (1300/) #nairobieats
The chicken & waffle comes with scrambled eggs on top, I don’t eat eggs so had that substituted with mushrooms. I enjoyed this a lot mostly because of the combination of flavours (sweet + savoury is always my jam), the fried chicken was delicious! #nairobieats
That chicken combined with the waffle, sautéed mushrooms, some raspberry and blueberries, whatever berry sauce was on the plate, & maple syrup… yum😋 #nairobieats
My only critique is that waffle - I don’t know why people make waffles so thick in this nairobi, haven’t found a place with fluffy waffles yet - is all that dough necessary surely? Wueh😮💨 #nairobieats
Didn’t try the shakshuka - because eggs😬 but my friend liked it, he did note that the eggs were over cooked and would have liked them a little runny👌🏾 This dish comes with slices of buttered toast:) #nairobieats
The French Toast😍 I usually stay away from French toast because I hate that it tastes so much of egg but this one wasn’t bad at all - for those who love French toast, you’ll enjoy this dish👌🏾#nairobieats
The bread is thick and fluffy on the inside and soft to bite into, perfect crunch on top, I don’t know if they make that bread in-house but it was amazing. The apple crumble drizzled beside the toast was also super yum and a great compliment to the dish. #nairobieats
Would have loved a lot more fresh berries though to balance out all the baked/fried items but pia hizo blueberries tatu zilikuwa tamu😅 #nairobieats
The Prawns tempura were okay, kawaida tempura (biased because Haru holds my fave tempura) but I also didn’t get the need of the liquid nitrogen pizzazz on every other dish..?? In a coffee shop? It’s okay, si a must but I guess presentation🤷🏽♀️ #nairobieats
The chef was nice enough to give us some little fruit bowls to start with, I think he saw our order and saw that we came with an agenda - to eat! Our waitress - Olivia was great, and took our feedback direct to the chef which I appreciate:) #nairobieats
This was midday Saturday and the place wasn’t full at all so it’s not a place that you need to book space for at least.
Overall I enjoyed this brunch & would go back to try out their main meals for lunch or dinner, Mode Cafe is open from 8am - 10pm:) #nairobieats
It’s about that time again, time to share my top restaurants of the year😊 It’s been a great year for eateries & this list is solely based on what I enjoyed the most, doesn’t mean the rest aren’t worthy pls lol
#nairobieats #top2024
1. Jamrock: one of my best finds this year, this small but vibey eatery had my heart with their rich Caribbean flavours! The grilled tilapia with plantains & the Jamrock special had me coming back again & again. The bashment vibes on a Friday night are also unmatched💃🏾 #top2024
This fine dining restaurant is located at Galana plaza in the heart of Kilimani. It’s a French cuisine restaurant with an additional African flare to all their dishes. #nairobieats
A hostess meets you at the door when you enter to direct you to your table, I found the place quite inviting - warm lighting, ambient music and well spaced seating so it doesn’t look too cramped. #nairobieats
For a fine dining restaurant I felt like their decor and furniture was quite dated, giving it a more aged feel as opposed to luxury… I think they need to spruce it up a bit to match their brand and their prices. #nairobieats
If you haven’t gone to Sno Cream & you live in Nairobi, I need you to go there now. Like right now. Close that laptop & head there so you can have the classic Sno Cream experience. #nairobieats
Sno Cream is possibly the oldest ice cream parlour in Kenya & actually has a branch in Dar es Salaam that is just as old & still in operation as well. It was opened in 1958🙊 by a British man who soon sold it to an Indian family in the 1960s #nairobieats
It’s been a family run business ever since.
I’ve been going to Sno Cream from a very young age, I can’t recall a Sunday afternoon that went by without an ice cream cone in my hand. My parents have been going to Sno Cream since back in the day too😄 #nairobieats
Been itching to try this place for ages so when @_wangwe decided to be outside, this became our very belated lunch plan:) The location isn’t hard to find thanks to the big sign right at the entrance. #nairobieats
Ambience wise the place is nothing to write home about which is PERFECT because it means they’re putting all their focus in the food😉 #nairobieats
We got started with some chicken dumplings (1000/), I didn’t know that an order of dumplings meant we get 20 of them😮💨 I’m so used to the 6 we get at Japanese restaurants lol… #nairobieats
The Spring Noshery has been on my list for a while but I don’t frequent Sarit Centre often so never got a chance to visit until just recently. It’s located in the new wing, 2nd floor I believe. #nairobieats
They have a wider breakfast menu and a more limited lunch/dinner menu. I wanted to try their crepes (750/) because you don’t find crepes in most restaurants, it’s usually just pancakes. My friend had their signature Belgian waffle (850/) #nairobieats
The crepes were so good & filling! I didn’t think I’d be full because thin pancakes can only do so much but four of them stuffed with strawberries & Nutella plus a side of bacon… that’s quite a meal😅 love that they added raspberries & blueberries too, always here for more fruit
A rooftop cinema, cafe AND bar, Unseen was a fantastic find and it’s become a place I visit often when I need a change of work scenery:) #nairobieats
Had a nice little date here with @DushyKuria one time and we really enjoyed the food there. We had the pork bao buns, kimchi grilled cheese sandwich, potato croquettes & Korean fried chicken (my fave!). #nairobieats
Loved the Korean chicken and the bao buns the best, so flavourful, so filling! The kimchi sandwich was a bit too salty for both of us😬 #nairobieats
