Remember when Germany’s @BMWK halted the acquisition of German wafer manufacturer #Siltronic by Taiwanese #GlobalWafers? During an award ceremony yesterday, GlobalWafers CEO Doris Hsu set the record strait re the BMWK’s hesitations:
According to Hsu, 🇩🇪 authorities believed that selling to a company from 🇹🇼 would mean selling it to 🇨🇳 in the long term. They were not worried about "what if" but "when" Taiwan would become the next Hongkong. For Hsu, this was the 1st time nat sec concerns dominated a M&A plan.
The government’s refusal to grant approval to a company from democratic "value partner" Taiwan when the chancellory @Bundeskanzler is ready to sell a stake in Hamburg port to Chinese state-owned company #Cosco is destroying trust in Germany as a partner and business location.

Chiang Wan-an was born Chang Wan-an in 1978. His father Chang Hsiao-yen (章孝嚴) claimed to be the son of late ROC president Chiang Ching-kuo (蔣經國) and successfully changed his surname to Chiang in 2005. How did he manage to do so?
After a sex scandal in 1999, then Secretary-General to the President Chang Hsiao-yen was forced to resign after a mere month on the job. He had first heard the rumor that his grandfather was Chiang Kai-shek in the 1960s. This information would be key to his political comeback.

How is Chinese media reporting on the #BuchaMassacre? A short thread 🧵:
Yesterday evening’s main CCTV newscast (新闻联播) only mentioned the fact that the Ukrainian army had regained control of the Kyiv oblast, including Bucha. However, the report made no reference to the atrocities witnessed there. No central propaganda directive issued yet?
If you search for #Bucha on the People’s Daily website, you get no relevant results for either 布查 or 布恰 spellings. The People’s Daily is the communist party’s main propaganda mouthpiece and the newspaper of record in China.
