This is some deeply offensive whataboutism, @ladailynews.

Giving headline space to political rumor and innuendo about @KarenBassLA when the point of the press conference was to advocate for survivors to get the information Caruso *publicly promised.* dailynews.com/2022/10/20/kar…
Instead of keeping his promise to Tyndall survivors, students, and alumni, Caruso *led* the cover up of the independent investigation results.

He’s been out here citing “experts” (I actually am one), claiming they told him making the findings available would hurt survivors. 🙄
But in deposition, under oath, Caruso called his refusal to share the independent investigation results with even the plaintiff’s lawyers a “business decision.” He also invoked attorney-client privilege. So Trustees who happen to be lawyers *legally represent* the institution?
To be clear, I am Jane Doe 48. I was not there to score political points but to stand up for survivors who are routinely denied information about how their complaints are handled.
The journalists in the room didn’t even *acknowledge* the women from the @BastaCenter cleaners’ union who are all survivors of on-the-job assault, some while working at USC. Then one, I think the guy from Fox had the gall to ask *how* Caruso failed to protect women.
Obviously, when an institution fails to address systemic acceptance of harassment and assault in one case, it sets a precedent and affirms that there is no commitment to accountability.

No one is safe in such a system but it’s the most marginalized who suffer the most.
Throughout this journey, I’ve been acutely aware that the Tyndall/USC case has only gotten attention because there’s a large group of us who went on to work in positions that helped us be comfortable speaking out and who have the privilege of being able to do so freely.
I was nervous this morning and didn’t immediately understand why the women from the union were there. I’ve spent all day regretting that I didn’t acknowledge them and at least offer them the mic. Their suffering matters, their voices should be heard. Desculpeme, mis hermanas.
As I said in my statement:

“Right now, Los Angeles is being rocked by the exposure of our ongoing betrayal by public servants from City Hall to the Sheriff's Department. We need leadership that will own up to mistakes, share information, and make real amends.
Rick Caruso cites his handling of the Tyndall scandal as an example of his ‘leadership,’ and perhaps it is but what does that really mean?
For me, a USC/Tyndall survivor, it means that he is more interested in covering for friends and associates and protecting powerful institutions than he is in upholding transparency and accountability.”

And that’s just not good enough for #LosAngeles.
Thanks to @xiomaraz4 for bringing this piece, which is not about Tyndall *or* cleaning staff being assaulted on the job, to my attention.

In the early 90s, I was much more safe walking to my off-campus apartment than I did walking by fraternity row.
