A few months ago I had a quick chat with another tweeter here about someone they knew who caught #covid. The person had always had low platelet activity but after covid this figure increased to near normal.

We joked a little about the fact that this was the first occasion we’d heard of where catching covid may actually have benefitted someone.

Yesterday I got another DM from the same tweeter. There was nothing to joke about this time. The same person (the one whose platelet activity had increased) had died from a heart valve issue after apparently ‘recovering’ from covid.

The guy had had difficulty breathing ever since covid. He’d assumed it was a lung thing. He didn’t realise heart valve problems can lead to breathing difficulty and present similar symptoms.

He died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. He was just 54. And he was the brother of the person dm’ing me 😞

I asked if I could relay this story here because I don’t believe enough is being said in the mainstream media (and in our everyday conversations) about the cardiac side of #covid and #longcovid.

To the person who dm’d me I offer my sincerest condolences and I thank them for pushing us all to spread the word regarding the vascular and cardiac impact covid can have (even after apparent recovery)

And to anyone reading this I simply ask you to retweet it in the hope that this thread (& others like it) become part of a narrative which seeks to spread the truth about covid - the fact that it can be much more than respiratory & that it should never ever be taken lightly
