@LuAnnBird84 There are Democratic seats in the Wisconsin Assembly that, due to redistricting, will now be extremely hard to win. But the 84th went in the other direction. In 2020, it was Biden 43.8% to Trump’s 54.6%. But in the newly-drawn district, Biden got 51.1%. It could go blue in '22!
The chance of GOP supermajorities in both chambers of our state legislature is frighteningly real. It’s the explicit goal of the GOP. And if the GOP achieves this goal, it can crush voting rights by overriding Gov. Evers’s veto. wkow.com/news/actually-…
If we can help LuAnn Bird flip this district, the chances that we succeed in preventing a GOP supermajority absolutely skyrocket.
32 years ago, LuAnn Bird’s husband—a Vietnam vet—was paralyzed in a construction accident. LuAnn learned first-hand that a person in a wheelchair couldn’t get into several public schools. So she ran for school board, won, passed referenda—and made sure schools were accessible.
LuAnn’s like that: when she sees something wrong, she does something about it. When her neighborhood’s septic systems were failing, she got appointed to the sanitary district commission and got a sewer system installed.
And when she served as Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, she led the @LWV_WI to stand up against the NRA on gun safety legislation—and won.
LuAnn doesn’t back down from a fight.
Now, she’s running to help protect democracy in Wisconsin. We’re in a tight spot in our state. And she’s exactly who we want in our corner.
What about her opponent? Meet Bob Donovan, who unsuccessfully ran for Milwaukee Mayor this spring, admitted he didn’t even live in Milwaukee and was endorsed by ultra-MAGA friends like #RadicalRebecca Kleefisch.
Bob Donovan became a little internet famous because of an encounter with a clown this March.
Donovan has kept his campaign website pretty bare, but it wasn’t always that way.
It used to include the fact that he’s committed to enforcing the 1849 abortion ban. He might’ve scrubbed it from his website, but we know what his real stance would be if elected.
Winning the 84th Assembly District won’t be easy. But the choice couldn’t be clearer. And LuAnn Bird is running a campaign that is full of hope, optimism, and inspiration.
Let’s do this.
Let’s send LuAnn Bird to the Assembly.
She’s a community leader with a track record of doing the right thing. Bob Donovan is anything but.
@ewarren@Tony4WI@tammybaldwin@JoshKaulWI@MarkPocan@FrancescaHongWI Democrats are mobilizing on campuses all over Wisconsin—because the student vote could decide the 2022 elections, and thus the Senate, House, the Electoral College, and the future of American democracy. Wisconsin had 320,411 students last year. That’s 10x our 2018 margin.
Wisconsin students *vote.* For example, the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement Report on UW-Madison from 2020 found turnout at 72.8%—much higher than the national student average, just above the 72.7% overall Wisconsin turnout! morgridge.wisc.edu/wp-content/upl…
Since he was first elected in 2018, Governor Evers has been tackling GOP suppression bills left and right. wpr.org/gov-tony-evers…
He isn’t just on defense. He’s on offense too—scoring big for Wisconsin’s working families.
From repairing almost 5,000 miles of highways to leading the charge on Wisconsin schools becoming 8th best in the nation, Gov Evers is doing the right thing. tonyevers.com/accomplishment…
🧵 Wisconsin’s state senate is ONE D-to-R flip away from having a GOP supermajority. Republicans set their sights on defeating Democratic Senator Jeff Smith in SD-31, a staunch democracy defender. The GOP’s nominee? Dave Estenson… an insurrectionist. secure.actblue.com/donate/jeff-sm…
The GOP candidate, Dave Estenson, has a paper trail of absolutely disqualifying and frankly, disgraceful behavior.
Throughout his tenure as a police officer, Estenson was the subject of MULTIPLE allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse. trempcountytimes.com/news/local-sen…
DOJ records detailed Estenson’s alarming pattern of pressuring women into sexual favors, threatening blackmail in relationships, and a time he assaulted a woman during a party.
FINAL 3 WEEKS: Wisconsin’s polls are tighter than tight. We’re sprinting into Get Out the Vote mode—equipping our MASSIVE field operation for the last push. We’ve set a goal to raise $11,245 for supplies. Low glitz, high impact. Read on, then chip in: secure.actblue.com/donate/fieldop…
More than in any other state, Wisconsin races come down to TINY margins of victory. So we’ve planned for exactly that scenario. We’re ready for a turnout battle that will come down to a couple of votes per ward statewide.
Early voting starts on Oct 25, so our Get Out the Vote canvasses will be launching all week. Here's what we need to ensure our volunteers have the gear they need to mobilize voters and hit our organizing goals for this election…
CALLING ALL GREEN BAY FOOTBALL FANS: Legendary former Green Bay coach Mike Holmgren is joining @WisDems for “Winning Time”—a special livestream event to help get out the vote and elect Democrats up and down the ballot! RSVP now: secure.actblue.com/donate/winning…
As a proud cheesehead and team co-owner, I’m pleased that this iconic figure in my team’s history is sticking up for the candidates who represent the same community-oriented values as the greatest football franchise in American history.
(And no, we shareholders don’t get special access to enlist former coaches for online grassroots events. Mike Holmgren is doing this because he cares about democracy, not because of my stock certificate.)
🧵In WI’s 54th Assembly District, we have to send Oshkosh Mayor Lori Palmeri to represent us. Her opponent is a rubber-stamp right-winger with a platform that would only hurt Wisconsinites.
As the Mayor of Oshkosh & a City Council Member, Palmeri has what it takes to lead.
She passed initiatives to offer free buses to K-12 schools, developed the city’s COVID response plan, and developed funding for mental health & homeless support programs. palmeriforassembly.com
