Staff and students can now use this charter to campaign for better LGBTQ+ teaching, and hold schools to account when they fall short of the bar they have set.
In addition, these schools join us in urging the @gmcuk to better recognise the harms of so-called conversion therapy
As stated by @ukmedschools, supported by UN and Gov reports, there is no credible base to support these practices, they have no place in clinical practice, & teaching must be developed that is authentic & inclusive of LGBTQ+ people, highlighting the harms of ‘conversion therapy’
Contrary to press and attacks on the Charter, this is no way detracts from those experiencing distress due to their gender and/or sexuality. It does not limit genuine evidence-based treatment options. However, therapy cannot begin with an agenda to cure LGBTQ+ people.
We are hugely 💞 grateful 💞 to the staff and students who have championed this work.
However there is still some way to go...
We will not stop until all medical schools support this work, and we see action from our governing bodies that regulate medical education in the UK
✨Every✨ med school has been invited & ✨every✨ school should sign
If your school isnt here then we need your help. RT, write letters, sign petitions…your voices matter.
So-Called LGBTQ+ Conversion Therapy is abuse.
We do not need a cure.
There must be an inclusive ban.

Today I gave a talk for the @rcpsych on gender inclusive healthcare. Attendees were, as I understand it, health professionals. The Q&A section had over 45 transphobic questions, ~80% of questions. To keep control of my emotions as I presented I had to dig my nails into my hand.
The questions came immediately, without warning, and then consistently in response to the slides. They were not evidence based and conflated issues to undermine the points
I’m feeling sad and angry. @rcpsych staff were really supportive, but I’m so disappointed in my profession
My personal suspicion is that a anti-trans group somehow infiltrated the invite and attendance data may demonstrate this. I do hope this was the case and that it wasn’t colleagues, but neither outcome would be surprising
